The Changes Signal a Clear Turning Point in U.S. Energy Policy, with the Trump Administration Resuming Prioritization of Oil Exploration Over Renewable Energy.
The Trump administration began the process to revoke a regulation from the Biden administration that reduced fees charged for renewable energy projects on public lands. At the same time, it announced measures to expedite oil and gas exploration leases.
End of Incentives for Renewable Energy on Public Lands
The U.S. Department of the Interior revealed on Tuesday (13) plans to annul a rule implemented by Joe Biden in 2024 that cut fees charged for renewable energy projects installed on federal lands by about 80%.
The rule aimed to attract investments to the sector and facilitate developers’ access to clean energy infrastructure.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

Africa has about 500,000 cell towers and most still burn diesel to operate, while companies rush to cover antennas with solar energy and avoid signal blackouts.

Farmers swapped diesel for solar panels in Pakistan, powered irrigation pumps almost cost-free, expanded rice fields, and now groundwater has become a red alert in the countryside.

Migrant workers left the world’s largest renewable energy park in India after extreme heat, 12-hour shifts, delayed wages, and poor accommodations at a site that still promises to supply 18 million homes.
However, the current administration claims that the policy unfairly favored “intermittent” energy projects, such as those from solar and wind sources.
“The elimination of the preferential treatment given by the Biden administration to inaccessible and unreliable ‘intermittent’ projects and the dismantling of excessive and unilateral restrictions on traditional energy sources like oil, gas, and essential minerals will unleash the full potential of the natural resources of the United States,” stated Doug Burgum, Secretary of the Interior.
The proposal will still be reviewed by the White House before being formally submitted for public comment.
Trump Accelerates Fossil Fuel Exploration
In addition to reviewing fees for renewable energy, the Trump administration also proposed updating a rule aimed at oil and gas exploration.
The intention is to streamline the leasing process for public lands, promoting auctions more quickly and with less bureaucracy.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are ending delays and bureaucratic hurdles that have long hindered the expansion of American energy production,” said Adam Suess, Acting Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management.
This initiative is part of a broader package of measures aimed at U.S. energy security and reducing energy costs, prioritizing traditional sources like oil and natural gas.
