The Drilling of the Onshore Oil Well in Espírito Santo
Both on land and at sea, exploration in Espírito Santo has been gaining momentum in 2021. In mid-April, in partnership with EnP, Imetame began drilling an onshore oil well in the Sintonia prospect. According to EnP’s CEO, Márcio Felix, “Drilling a pioneering onshore well always brings expectations of good discoveries.”
Imetame’s recent news of an oil discovery is proof of that. Block ES-T-441, where there are indications of oil, was acquired by the company in 2018, which paid a signing bonus estimated at R$ 1 million. In November 2020, EnP acquired 50% of this block and four more onshore oil exploration blocks in the Espírito Santo Basin.

Exploratory Activity in Oil Wells in Brazil
Not only Imetame, but earlier this month, Recôncavo Energia also notified the ANP about the discovery of indications of oil in the onshore well 1-FFL-1-BA, located in the Recôncavo Basin. The first exploratory period for this well will be valid until June 17, while the second will have an exploration period until June 2023.
In April, Petrobras launched a new exploration campaign off the coast of Espírito Santo. On April 6, it began drilling an oil well in the offshore block ES-M-669, which was acquired by the company in the 11th Round of Bidding in 2013 by the ANP. Petrobras operates in the area with a 40% stake in partnership with Total and Equinor.
The well drilled by Petrobras was technically named 1-BRSA-1379D-ESS. The first exploratory period for this Petrobras block will be valid until this month of May, while the second period will be valid until May 2023.
