Route 4 is divided into two parts: one called Route 4, which connects pre-salt production offshore to Praia Grande, with a pipeline 275 km long (four times the distance from Santos to São Paulo).
The other part is Route 4B, a pipeline with a length of 313 km, of which 294 km is in the sea and 19 km on land, connecting the pre-salt production hub at the Santos Basin to Ilha da Madeira, at the Port of Itaguaí, in Rio de Janeiro.
With a capacity to transport 21 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, Route 4 will increase transportation capacity and gas production in the pre-salt fields.
Although the Group does not mention jobs, according to the strategic planning consultant and professor in mineral exploration and natural gas and oil, Juarez Fontana dos Santos, the sector could become a chance for generating jobs and income for the Baixada Santista if properly leveraged.
A Tribuna reported that, in the view of the person responsible for the area of oil, gas, and biofuels at the São Paulo Department of Infrastructure and Environment, Ricardo Cantarani, it is essential for the private initiative to act in the Campos Basin region. For Professor Juarez Fontana, Petrobras’s participation should be minority in the coming years.
