The Antonov AN-124, the Largest Cargo Aircraft in the World, Landed in Viracopos, Campinas, Attracting Huge Crowds. The Aircraft, Which Can Carry Up to 150 Tons, Arrived in Brazil Empty and Will Transport an Industrial Component to Chile.

Last Saturday (06/15), the largest cargo aircraft in the world, the Antonov AN-124, made a historic landing at Viracopos International Airport, in Campinas (São Paulo). The impressive aircraft, operated by the Ukrainian Antonov Airlines, arrived in Brazil after a refueling stop in Cape Verde, coming from Malpensa International Airport in Italy.

The Antonov AN-124 landed in Campinas at 11:45 AM local time, attracting a crowd of aviation enthusiasts and curious onlookers eager to witness the arrival of the giant of the skies. The aircraft is not only remarkable for its impressive size but also for its extraordinary transport capabilities.

Features of the Antonov AN-124

Measuring 69 meters in length, the Antonov AN-124 is approximately the same size as the shorter side of a football field.

Its height of 21 meters is equivalent to a six-story building.

The wingspan, or the distance between the tips of the wings, reaches an impressive 73 meters.

But it’s not just the size that impresses! The Antonov AN-124 can carry up to 150 tons of cargo, which corresponds to the weight of approximately 10 buses.

Currently, this vast capacity is primarily used for transporting heavy machinery and mining products.

The Arrival of the Largest Cargo Aircraft in the World and Its Next Mission

Despite its immense cargo capacity, this time, the Antonov AN-124 arrived empty on Brazilian soil. However, it will not stay that way for long.

The aircraft is scheduled to receive an industrial component from a metallurgical company located in Paraná.

After loading, the airplane took off in the early hours of Sunday (06/16) headed for Chile.

The presence of the Antonov AN-124 in Brazil is a significant milestone for aviation and heavy cargo transport in the country.

The landing of the largest cargo aircraft in the world in Campinas highlights the importance of Viracopos International Airport as a strategic logistics hub in South America.

The arrival of the freighter in Brazil is not only an event for aviation enthusiasts but also a testament to the exceptional capabilities of this aircraft.

The Antonov AN-124, with its impressive features and capabilities, continues to be a marvel of aeronautical engineering, and its presence in Brazil will certainly be remembered for a long time.
