Omega Energia will need to contain investments in other works to reach the expected profit in the Assuruá renewable energy complex (Bahia)

Another big news for the renewable energy sector: shortly after Equatorial (EQTL3) completed the largest purchase of the area in Brazil, Omega Energia (MEGA3) signed, on March 7, an agreement for the acquisition of 100% of the complex Assuruá, located in Bahia. The purchase was closed for R$ 262,2 million.

According to the original text by Larissa Vitória for the website Your money, as this renewable energy company already owns a large portion of the wind energy generation system in Bahia, the newest agreement expands the economic participation in the Assuruá 4 and Assuruá 5 plants, which are in the development process.

In this way, Omega, which is currently considered the largest national producer of renewable energy, points out that, when the two plants are fully operational, they are expected to add around R$ 380 million to their Ebitda (acronym in English). to “Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization”).

Omega will need to redirect investments

However, before finding the estimated good results, Omega will have to postpone the start of works in other recent developments to transfer resources and, thus, be able to direct investments and total focus on the Bahia complex.

All of this has a reason: in addition to the agreed value for the purchase – which will be even greater, given the increase due to the correction of the CDI in the annual installments –, the projects will require an additional 200 million reais in funds for the following 18 months.

Future of renewable energy company promises

Despite this obstacle, Omega still has strong expectations for the profitability of this sale. According to the company itself, the agreement also ensures all assets and rights over solar and wind expansions, which can reach 617,6 megawatts (MW).

Another bet of the energy company is that future “synergies and gains of scale” will increase market competitiveness between the prices of commercialized energy, therefore, the profitability of the asset will also increase. The forecast is that the new Omega complex in Bahia will be close to reaching 1.500 MW installed next year.
