Russia Attacks With Drones and Missiles Kiev and Other Cities in Ukraine. Four People Have Died and Dozens Have Been Injured.

Ukraine suffered, on this Sunday (09/07/2025), the largest airstrike since the beginning of the war. Moscow launched over 800 drones and missiles against different cities in the country, including Kiev, where a government building was hit for the first time.

The bombardment left at least four dead, including a child under one year old, in addition to dozens injured.

The Russian offensive, described as “vile” by President Volodymyr Zelensky, intensifies the escalation of the conflict and exposes the vulnerability of the Ukrainian capital after 11 consecutive hours of air raid alerts.

Largest Attack Since the Beginning of the War

According to the Ukrainian Air Force, Moscow fired 810 drones, four ballistic missiles, and nine cruise missiles during the operation.

Although most were intercepted by air defenses, 54 drones and nine missiles managed to hit targets in different regions of the country.

The number exceeds the offensive recorded in July, which was considered until then the largest since the Russian invasion began in February 2022.

According to Zelensky, the attacks caused widespread destruction and show that “murders, now when diplomacy could prevail, are a deliberate crime.”

Kiev Under Intense Fire

In the capital, the bombardment damaged the building housing Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko’s office, as well as some ministries near the parliament and the presidential headquarters.

“For the first time, the government building, its roof and upper floors were damaged by enemy attacks”, declared Svyrydenko, thanking the rescue teams for their work.

The attack also destroyed residential buildings in neighborhoods such as Sviatoshynskyi, where a child under one year old died buried under rubble.

Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that a nine-story building had four floors partially destroyed, while another 16-story building caught fire on the upper floors.

The images released by emergency services show open facades and firefighters battling flames amid the debris.

Deaths and Injuries in Different Regions After Russian Attack

In addition to the capital, the cities of Kryvyi Rih, Dnipro, Kremenchuk, and Odesa were hit. At least four people died across the country, and 44 were injured, according to official reports.

Among the victims are a young woman in Kiev and residents whose homes were destroyed.

The Ukrainian Emergency Service reported that at least 18 people were injured just in the capital. In Kremenchuk, a bridge over the Dnipro River was hit, affecting a strategic transport route in the center of the country.

Ukraine’s Reaction and Next Steps

In response to the attack, Ukraine claimed to have struck two energy facilities in Russian territory, located in Bryansk and southern Krasnodar.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Denys Shmygal announced an emergency meeting to discuss strengthening air defenses and expanding response capability with long-range strikes.

Zelensky emphasized that “the world can make the Kremlin criminals stop killing, all we need is political will.”

For the Ukrainian president, international pressure is crucial to curb new bombings and reduce the suffering of the population.

Escalating War

The massive attack highlights a new phase of the war. With the increasing use of drones and missiles, Kiev faces greater difficulty in keeping its infrastructure protected, while Russia seeks to increase political and military pressure.

Despite the destruction, Svyrydenko stated that the damaged buildings will be rebuilt. However, she stressed: “The lost lives cannot be recovered. Every day, the enemy terrorizes and kills our people all over the country.”
