At IAA Mobility in Munich, Manufacturer Surprises by Announcing That Its Crowning Gem, the Legendary V12 Engine, Will Continue Production in the Next Decade, Despite Strict Regulations and Electrification Goals
Mercedes-Benz announced on Monday (8) during the IAA Mobility Show in Munich that the V12 engine will remain in production after 2030, contradicting previous plans for full electrification by the end of the decade. The confirmation was made by CEO Thomas Schäfer, who highlighted the relevance of the engine for specific markets and the ongoing demand for luxury vehicles.
Three years ago, the company had communicated the intention to fully electrify its fleet by 2030, “when market conditions allowed.” Now, the decision marks a strategic shift, aligned with the relaxation of goals in various countries and the persistence of consumers who still seek high-performance engines.
V12 Remains a Symbol of Exclusivity

Currently, the Mercedes-Maybach S680 is the only model from the brand equipped with the 6.0-liter V12 Biturbo M279, which delivers high power and maintains the status of the ultimate symbol of exclusivity. The engine is also still produced for the Italian manufacturer Pagani, reinforcing its presence in super sports cars.

Schäfer emphasized that the future of the engine will depend on the compliance with Euro 7 standards and the adaptation strategy for different markets. When asked about technical details, the executive stated: “I won’t say more, but it’s coming.”
Emerging Markets Ensure Survival
According to the CEO’s statement, European countries will have to comply with the ban on combustion engines starting in 2035, but other strategic markets, such as the Middle East and China, do not yet have equivalent legislation. This opens opportunities for Mercedes to continue offering the V12 in regions where there is high demand for ultra-luxury sedans and SUVs.
The information was released by the portal The Drive, which highlighted the significance of the decision in the context of the automotive industry, marked by electrification announcements followed by strategic revisions.
V8 and Six-Cylinder Engines Also Return
In addition to the V12, Mercedes confirmed the return of Euro 7 compliant V8 engines, aimed at the AMG division, to replace the hybrid four-cylinder versions that did not please the public. The company is also expanding the use of inline six-cylinder engines, reinforcing a strategy for a less abrupt transition to electrification.
As a result, the German manufacturer repositions itself between tradition and innovation, balancing expanding electric vehicles with the continued presence of high-performance engines that still represent strong commercial appeal.

😃😃😃😃😃
Nao vi a reportagem falando de propulsor. A materia é sobre MOTOR. Motor gera forca-motriz, propulsor gera empuxo.
Recomendo que a mente brilhante procure o significado de propulsor no dicionário.
