Brazil Is Showcasing the Title of Largest Producer of Gemstones in the Americas. Furthermore, It Is Possible to Find More Than 90 Models of Extremely Precise Stones Within Brazilian Territory. However, Gemstones Represent a Quite Modest Percentage in Brazilian Exports.
Just like in Russia, Botswana, and Canada, countries that produce the gems, Brazil has also been gaining ground in the market with gemstones. In this case, the country is one of the largest producers of these stones. Thus, according to data from the (MDIC) Ministry of Development, Industry, Commerce, and Services, the export of jewelry and goldsmithing is growing more and more, and Brazil is leading the rankings.
In this way, according to the analysis from the Comexstat platform, the trade of gemstones has represented only 0.05%. The total of Brazilian exports in December 2022 saw a growth of 6.7% over a 12-month period. In figures, approximately 2,500 tons of treasures generated a value of US$156.15 million last year (2022). The United States and Germany will receive a total of 71% of the exports. In Brazil, there are few reserves of silver.
Nonetheless, France was also a standout country with imports valued at US$4.47 million in native gemstones. Despite this diversity, some types of gemstones stood out in Brazil. One such case is emeralds, which are widely used for jewelry such as bracelets, rings, and earrings. Thus, another stone that has been bringing significant recognition to the country is amethyst, which is abundant in Rio Grande do Sul, being the state’s most produced stone in Brazil and the world.

While traditional construction consumes enormous amounts of energy and cement, a new material created by scientists uses an enzyme to transform CO₂ into solid minerals, hardens in hours, and could revolutionize civil construction.
Stones That Are Most Common in Brazil:
Initially, there are seven gemstones that are most common in Brazil: Agate, Garnet, Emerald, Aquamarine, Tourmaline, Citrine, and Amethyst. The state that produces the most gemstones is Minas Gerais, where its soil contains many riches, being the birthplace of diamonds in the country. It is worth remembering that in addition to amethyst, Rio Grande do Sul also has a soil rich in quartz.
Bahia also offers soil with diamonds and emeralds. Similarly, Tocantins, Goiás, and Pará. The stones are extracted by mining companies and prospectors and are located in caves, caverns, exposed rocks, and even in open sky.
There are several methods for extracting inorganic natural substances, and these excavations can be carried out in two ways: industrially or manually. Nine of these gemstones attract attention for their beauty, rarity, and especially their value, as some types can cost millions of reais.
