A New Agreement Signed Between the Government of Goiás and Mitsubishi Motors in Japan Is Set to Transform the Manufacturer’s Plant in Catalão into an International Export Platform. The Measure Aims to Strengthen the Local Economy and Open New Jobs with the Increase in Production
On this Monday (7/14), a contract considered strategic was signed between representatives of the Government of Goiás and executives from Mitsubishi Motors in Japan.
The agreement authorizes HPE Automotores, which assembles the Japanese manufacturer’s vehicles in Brazil, to export its models to Mercosur and other countries in South America.
The ceremony took place at Mitsubishi Motors’ global headquarters in Tokyo.

The Goiás delegation was led by Governor Ronaldo Caiado, who highlighted the importance of the agreement for the state and for the municipality of Catalão, where the factory has been located for 27 years.
Catalão as an International Platform
With the new authorization, the Goiás unit will also function as an international production platform.
Until now, the factory produced vehicles exclusively for the Brazilian market. Now, with the possibility of exporting, an increase in production and, consequently, job creation is expected.
“The signing of this agreement is very important. As soon as it begins, it will automatically increase vehicle production and we will have more jobs at the plant in Catalão,” said Mayor Velomar Rios.
Incentive for the Local Industry
For Governor Ronaldo Caiado, this is a moment of celebration for the automotive industry in the state.
“Mitsubishi Motors is one of the most renowned international companies. We came here especially to expand our partnerships,” he stated.
He also reinforced Goiás’ commitment to expanding the factory: “It makes us, Goiás residents, proud to host it in Brazil.”
Investments and Recognition
Mitsubishi Motors in Japan also recently announced that it will invest R$ 4 billion in the Catalão unit by 2032.
Today, the factory produces two models: the SUV Eclipse Cross with 4×4 traction and the new Triton pickup.
The CEO of the company, Takao Kato, emphasized the importance of the Brazilian market and state support. “The success of our business in Brazil is largely due to the warm support of the Government of Goiás, including tax incentives and infrastructure improvements,” he said.
