Danish European Energy’s Investment in Pernambuco Marks Start of Company Operations in the State and Includes the Northeast with Three More Wind Farms
The Danish multinational European Energy is investing R$ 510 million in the Northeast with the construction of three wind farms in the state of Pernambuco. The units will be installed in Macaparana, in the Zona da Mata, and Poção, in the Agreste, and the start of construction is scheduled for next month.

R$ 358 million was financed by the Banco do Nordeste. The expectation is that the wind farms will start operating in October of next year, and the choice of municipalities in Pernambuco was mainly due to the availability of natural resources.
The wind farms in Pernambuco are being developed in conjunction with the Pernambuco-based company Eólica Tecnologia and are part of the A-6 auction of 2017. “A study signed by AWS TruePower demonstrates the potential of the interior of the state, which could eventually receive new investments from European Energy or other companies interested in investing in renewable energy,” said Jens-Peter Zink, Executive Vice President of the Danish company.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.

The Ouro Branco I, Ouro Branco II, and Quatro Ventos parks will have a total capacity to generate 94.5 MW, an amount equivalent to the consumption of 65,000 families. The generated energy will be added to and commercialized within the regulated distribution network of Pernambuco.
The Quatro Ventos will have a capacity to generate 22.5 MW, while the others will have 36 MW each. Together, the three wind farms will comprise 21 V150 Vestas wind turbines, in their latest version, with an increased capacity of 4.5 MW each. These are towers with a height of 120 meters and blades 73.7 meters long.
The energy generated by them will contribute to the reduction of more than 500,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions during their operation, in addition to the development of the municipalities.
The labor for the construction of the wind farms in Pernambuco will be primarily local. Moreover, European Energy conducted a survey of the social profiles of the municipalities to guide the social policies to be offered to local residents.
The wind farms in Pernambuco have the support of the Danish government, through the Investment Fund for Developing Countries (IFU), an investment fund for developing countries that requires compliance with various international best practice criteria.
