Copel has been conducting private auctions and has been active in Brazil’s energy market, attracting strong investor interest amid uncertainties about the pace of official government auctions for new energy projects, as the coronavirus pandemic has reduced electricity demand.

According to Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia, with this contract the company reaches 1.9 GW of developed projects in the cluster. For the executive, the contract with Copel reaffirms the quality of the wind and solar cluster, attracting those who wish to purchase clean energy.

The partnership between the companies is long-standing. Copel is a partner in the 108 MW São Miguel do Gostoso wind farm and was one of the energy purchasers from Solar Serra do Mel.

Today, solar energy represents 20% of Voltalia’s total installed capacity. The company intends to further increase this technology in its three main regions, with an additional 1 GW of solar capacity already signed.

Investments in Brazil

Voltalia announced in the first quarter of 2020 the closing of deals with Copel and the petrochemical Braskem for the construction of new plants in Brazil.

Last month, the French company also announced a contract to develop, construct, and operate a wind farm in Brazil that will supply all production to the Japanese group TODA in the construction sector.
