In 2024, Oil Took the Lead in Brazil’s Exports, Surpassing Soybean. The Advance Was Ensured by the Pre-Salt, Strong International Demand, and Environmental Differentials, Consolidating Changes in the Brazilian Trade Structure
Although soybeans led the Brazilian exports between 2022 and 2023, in 2024 the landscape changed. The spotlight shifted to oil, which took the lead in the country’s foreign sales agenda.
According to data from the Foreign Trade Secretariat (Secex), the strength of the pre-salt and high global demand drove the results.
Brazil exported 85.45 million tons of fuel between January and November. Therefore, there was a jump of 14.4% compared to the same period in 2023.

For the economist José Kobori, the USA gained a trump card to “blackmail” Brazil and undermine China’s influence by classifying the PCC and Comando Vermelho as terrorists, increasing the power to pressure companies, banks, and even Pix.

The labor shortage has changed its face in Brazil: companies hire 80% more, but workers stay only 6.8 months in the job, the service market becomes a “revolving door,” and businesses spend increasingly more to train teams that soon leave.

Chinese giant chooses SC to set up its first factory in Brazil, investing R$ 250 million and producing MRI machines costing R$ 10 million each, with 100 direct jobs and 5% of revenue allocated to research.

After selling a unit for R$ 115 million to pay off debts, a traditional factory in SC founded in 1932 has a new R$ 64.8 million plan denied by the court and retains about 690 workers in Joinville.
Billion-Dollar Revenue
This advance directly reflected in revenues. Oil generated US$ 42.76 billion, equivalent to R$ 233.03 billion at the current exchange rate.
Additionally, soybeans recorded nearly the same movement, with US$ 42.08 billion (R$ 229.32 billion). In other words, both products continue to be pillars of foreign trade, but with oil at the top of the list.
The difference, although small in value, marks an important change in the export structure.
The strength of the Brazilian energy industry, combined with the specific characteristics of the pre-salt, helped consolidate this position.
Environmental Factor
One reason for the increased demand lies in the low carbon intensity of Brazilian oil. It emits less CO₂ per barrel compared to many international competitors.
Because this environmental differential meets the growing demand from markets that require sustainability.
In other words, the national product gained ground also due to its ecological attribute.
Export Ranking
The list of the top ten exported products in 2024 shows how Brazil’s agenda remains diversified.
In first place were crude oil or bituminous mineral oils, with US$ 44.84 billion. Next, soybeans accounted for US$ 42.94 billion.
The third place was occupied by iron ore and its concentrates, reaching US$ 29.84 billion. Sugars and molasses totaled US$ 18.63 billion, placing fourth.
In fifth position were petroleum fuels, with US$ 11.69 billion. Just below, fresh, chilled, or frozen beef reached US$ 11.65 billion.
Unroasted coffee secured seventh place, totaling US$ 11.33 billion. Eighth came cellulose, with US$ 10.61 billion.
The ninth spot went to soybean meal and other animal feed, which yielded US$ 10.40 billion. Finally, in tenth place were poultry and its offal, with US$ 9.08 billion.
This list highlights the importance of oil but also confirms the ongoing strength of Brazilian agribusiness.

Viva a democracia.
Eis minha opinião: Se a Petrobras é pública, deveria suprir a demanda interna a preço local a população, e o excedente, aí sim colocar no mercado a quem paga mais.
É tanta hipocrisia que me limito aqui.
