Petrobras' new project will revitalize the Campos Basin, in Rio de Janeiro, and will be the largest offshore recovery plan in the world
A Petrobras intends to reduce by 60% the carbon emissions associated with the production of the Marlim and Voador fields, in the Campos Basin, in Rio de Janeiro, as a result of the implementation of the project to revitalize this basin. Petrobras' strategy consists of replacing the nine owned platforms that are in operation today in these two assets with two new FPSOs, floating units that produce, store and transfer oil, and which are equipped with technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The revitalization of the Campos Basin, in Rio de Janeiro, will be part of the largest project to recover mature assets in the world's offshore industry. With this, Petrobras aims to contribute more value to the Marlim and Voador fields, in Rio de Janeiro, by installing the FPSOs Anita Garibaldi and Anna Nery there, with a combined capacity to produce up to 150 thousand barrels per day (bpd). The start of operation of the two platforms is scheduled for the year 2023.
To implement the new production projects in the Campos Basin, in Rio de Janeiro, Petrobras will drill 14 new wells, relocating another 61. With the effort to revitalize the reservoirs, the forecast is to produce gains in production for the field of Rio de Janeiro.

Petrobras added low fugitive emission valves to the new platforms, technology to reduce vented gas from oil storage tanks, as well as other solutions focused on reducing carbon emissions, further helping to raise environmental awareness in the fields of Marlim and Voador, in Rio de Janeiro.
Maintenance in the Campos Basin will rely on floating hotels
In order to improve the maintenance service in the Campos Basin, in Rio de Janeiro, Petrobras has a plan of scheduled stoppages for the maintenance of its fields located in the Campos Basin, which will start in 2022 and continue until 2023 to guarantee the necessary safety for the exploration of these areas. And, for this, the company will allocate a total investment of US$ 220 million in Maintenance and Safety Units (UMS), floating hotels that guarantee easier and more efficient maintenance services.
So far, the company Petrobras has completed its shutdown campaign for maintenance services on platform P-51, located in the Campos Basin, Rio de Janeiro. It is now turning its efforts and investment to maintenance activities and scheduled stoppages, which are underway on the P-53 and P-43 oil and gas platforms, scheduled for completion this month.
Still in 2022, the company intends to start the maintenance campaign also on the P-48 and P-40 platforms. Thus, the UMS will be essential to accommodate the workers and all the equipment needed to carry out maintenance services in the oil and gas exploration areas.
In addition to the investment in the acquisition and chartering of UMS for the campaigns, Petrobras' Campos Basin Exploration and Production Unit (UN-BC) will use, as of August 2022, a small accommodation vessel for works of smaller scope, thus ensuring even more efficiency in the services.
The investment of US$ 220 million by Petrobras in UMS in the maintenance campaign for the fields in the Campos Basin will be essential for greater efficiency in the services, since each unit on this platform is able to house around 500 workers who work in the campaigns or scheduled stoppages of the marine units in operation.
In addition, the floating hotels are connected to the platforms passing through the services by means of a bridge, thus ensuring easier movement for workers.
