Ford Outlined Its Plans to Launch More Electric Vehicles in Europe, Revealing a New Unit of the New Ford Electric SUV, Called Ford Model e, That Will Deliver Three New Electric SUVs by 2024.
The VW MEB electric vehicle platform will form the basis for both models, a new five-passenger electric SUV from Ford and a sporty crossover. They will be built at the company’s factory in Cologne, which is currently undergoing a £1.5 billion renovation for an electric vehicle plant with a battery assembly facility on-site. Another new EV will be an electric version of the Puma crossover.
Meet the New Ford Electric SUV
The new medium-sized Ford electric SUV may be similar in size to the VW ID.4 and share the same technological foundations. The MEB architecture can accommodate up to a 77kWh battery, and the brand claims that the model can travel 311 miles on a single charge.
The platform is also available in rear or all-wheel drive configurations, with power ranging from 146 hp to 295 hp for the more powerful all-wheel-drive variants. The SUV will be unveiled later this year before going on sale in 2023. The vehicle’s name has not yet been confirmed until the car is revealed, but our exclusive images show what it will look like.

The new Ford electric SUV will have a robust look different from the company’s current lineup, with a high hood line, new LED illuminated badge, and a closed grille. When the new SUV arrives, it may give us a first glimpse of Ford’s new electric design language and will have a smaller footprint than the Mustang Mach-E.
New Ford Electric SUV Will Be Sportier
The second electric model from Cologne, slated for 2024, is described by the brand as a “sporty crossover” and features another new illuminated badge. Like the VW ID.5, it is likely to be positioned as a more stylish version of its SUV sibling.
Despite common reasoning, Stewart Rowley, head of Ford Europe, believes these new SUVs stand apart from Volkswagen’s offerings on the road: “Let me assure you, these products look and drive absolutely like Ford cars.”
After the two dedicated EVs, there will be an electric version of the brand’s best-selling Puma crossover, of which 130,000 units were sold in Europe in 2020. It will be built in Romania, taking on the capabilities of the soon-to-be-launched EcoSport crossover.
No technical details have been confirmed yet, but over 200 miles of range would be necessary to compete with the Peugeot e-2008. In addition to the passenger car announcement, Ford also confirmed it will launch four next-generation electric commercial vehicles in Europe by 2024.
