Pacific South Bureau Veritas Porto Parangua

São Paulo, June 29, 2020 – The Bureau Veritas Group, world leader in Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC), was responsible for inspecting the largest soy cargo shipped from Brazilian ports in the country's history. The company verified the shipment of 102.703,85 tons of soy meal and high-protein soy meal from the Cape Size ship Pacific South, one of the largest in the world, at the Port of Paranaguá, in Paraná.

To get an idea of the volume of certified grain, if it were transported by trucks, 3 vehicles would be needed. One can also measure the importance of the operation by comparing it with common shipments of soybean meal, which are usually carried for export in ships of up to 400 thousand tons, that is, more than 60% higher.

“Bureau Veritas was born almost 200 years ago with the inspection of ships in Europe and since then it has become a world reference in the sector for its strength, quality of verification and reliability. The Group is also the industry leader in Brazil, holding 60% of the soy meal, soy in grain and corn inspection market in the country, occupying the leadership position in the segment”, highlights Claudio Fonseca, director of Operations of the Agri & Food.

The record soy inspection integrated the control and verification of the cargo at the time of shipment of the grain, evaluating the weight, condition and quality of the merchandise. Among the specificities analyzed are the percentage of moisture, amount of oil, fiber and the sanitary condition of the product. Health authorities and the Federal Revenue accompanied the investigation.

The vessel came from the port of Shanghai, in China, to the bay of Paranaguá. The port in Paraná and Vitória, in Espírito Santo, are the only ones in Brazil with the logistical structure to load ships the size of the Pacific South. The bulk carrier is 292 meters long and 45 meters wide and has nine gates, while the average export vessel has five or seven gates. Inspected, the cargo goes to the north of Europe.
