With Solar Power, 6 cm More in Height and Digital Locks, the New Ford Transit Off-Road Turns Any Road into a Destination

With 6 centimeters more ground clearance, reinforced tires, factory metal protection, and a solar system capable of powering up to a week of remote camping, the new off-road version of the Ford Nugget is a true home on wheels ready for any adventure.

Developed in partnership with the German company Terranger, specialized in extreme conversions, this radical version of the traditional Ford Transit Nugget camper van impresses not only with its robust appearance but primarily with its meticulous engineering aimed at self-sufficiency and resilience in challenging terrains.

Suspension Lift and Armoring for Off-Road Use

The transformation begins with the adoption of BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires, which raise the assembly height by 3.5 centimeters. Next, an exclusive modification to the suspension by Terranger ensures an additional 3 centimeters of lift, all without the need to replace the van’s original springs. In total, there are 6 extra centimeters of ground clearance, significantly enhancing the Nugget ‘s ability to tackle trails, rocks, and uneven terrains.

The reinforcement doesn’t stop there: the engine, fuel tank, and AdBlue reservoir receive protection from robust metal plates, ideal for preventing damage from impacts with branches, rocks, or rough terrain. The side of the vehicle also features steel steps concealed in the design, but designed to withstand severe impacts. A metal front bar can also be installed, providing additional protection to the bumper and front system.

Despite the functional improvements, the design hasn’t been overlooked. The rear gains visual details reminiscent of alpine landscapes or the Sahara, while the front features embossed lines with a matte finish, reinforcing the expedition character without falling into stylistic excess.

Extra Compartments and Survival Equipment

For those planning to camp far from any structure, the new Nugget brings smart solutions: a large lockable trunk at the rear ensures extra space for storing equipment. In it, you can comfortably store a full-size spare tire, as well as essential tools like an axe, shovel, flashlight, or water jugs. All accessories are mounted on external supports for quick access.

Even with all this robustness, the van remains comfortable and practical for everyday use. Inside, it continues to be what you expect from a good camper: a bright, well-ventilated environment, with a foldable bed and a raiseable roof that offers extra headroom and airflow — perfect for both leisure and remote work.

Solar Panel and Batteries That Guarantee a Week of Autonomy

One of the highlights of the conversion is the state-of-the-art electrical system. On the roof, a fixed 170 W solar panel provides power during the day. If the vehicle is parked in the shade, there is still the option to connect mobile solar panels through a second external input.

This energy goes directly to a set of two 150 Ah lithium batteries, totaling 300 Ah of capacity. This set, combined with an 80 A charge amplifier, allows the system to operate for at least seven days without the need for a power connection. In more equipped versions, the capacity can reach an impressive 450 Ah.

All components are installed under the seats, with easy access for maintenance or replacement — an essential detail for long and remote trips. An inverter with a network priority system ensures that all 230 V sockets operate normally, even without an external power source. This means that you can safely and continuously connect coffee makers, laptops, electric bike chargers, or any other appliance.

Remote Work in the Field With Internet via Smart Router

The Nugget transformation hasn’t overlooked the connected audience. Above the rearview mirror, a router with two slots for mobile carrier SIMs and a high-range external antenna has been installed. This allows the van to function as a true mobile office — ideal for professionals working remotely who want to stay away from the city without sacrificing productivity.

Even in areas without signal, the van’s internal sound insulation allows any quiet corner of nature to be transformed into a space of total concentration. Thus, the Ford Nugget becomes more than just a recreational vehicle: it becomes a tool of freedom.

Reinforced Security Against Thefts

In terms of security, the camper also stands out. The installed Bearlock technology offers mechanical locks for all vehicle doors and access lids. These locks can only be deactivated by a specific button or app, making the van practically inviolable in urban areas or isolated campsites.

Price and Customization

This whole package of robustness and freedom comes at a price. The complete conversion of the Ford Nugget, as shown in the images, costs around 36,000 euros (approximately R$ 235,000) — a value that does not include the cost of the original vehicle. Nonetheless, it is possible to customize the project and opt for only some of the available modules: solar system, suspension lift, equipment door, security locks, etc.

The purpose of the off-road Nugget is clear: to offer a truly capable motorhome that can go off paved roads without sacrificing comfort, technology, or safety. For adventurers, exploring families, or digital nomads, it is one of the most versatile and complete vans ever launched.
