The Recently Completed Dredging Work Enabled An Increase in the Draught of the Port of Recife and, With That, The Complex Will Be Able to Receive Even Larger Ships for Cargo Movement, Making Its Growth in These Operations Even Greater.
The Port of Recife, located in the state of Pernambuco, received approval for the bathymetry of the recently completed dredging work in its berths, with the assessment conducted by the CHM (Hydrographic Center of the Navy) last Thursday (07/14) and celebrated the completion of the works. With the new maximum draught in the Pernambuco complex, cargo movement, which has already been on a strong increase in recent months, will become even more significant and receive even larger ships in the coming months.
Dredging Works to Increase the Draught of the Port of Recife Are Completed, and the Complex Takes Advantage of the New Depth to Receive New Ships
The CHM completed the evaluation of the dredging works in the berths of the Port of Recife and granted approval of the bathymetry of the process, thus ensuring the total completion of the expansion project of the complex’s draught. Therefore, the Pernambuco port has an even greater depth for navigation of ships in cargo handling operations and is expected to leverage the scenario to expand activities in the segment.
Thus, the final report on the dredging works at the Port of Recife indicates that berths 00 and 01 achieved a depth mark of 10 meters; the section between berths 02 and 06 reached 11 meters; and the depth between berths 07 and 09 has increased to eight meters. Furthermore, according to data from the CHM itself, the maximum draught of these berths, with the completion of the dredging works, could reach 12.60 m, 13.60 m, and 10.6 m, respectively, during high tide.

CATL manufactures more batteries for electric cars than all its competitors worldwide combined, and the company founded 14 years ago in a coastal city in China that no one knew delivered 661 GWh in 2025, commands 39.2% of the global market and supplies batteries to Tesla, BMW, Toyota, and Volkswagen.
The completion of the dredging works was a major milestone for the management of the president of the Port of Recife, José Lindoso, who will hand over his position to Tito Lívio Morais next week. Additionally, Lindoso was responsible for the investments from Liquiport in the Port of Recife, which plans to install a new battery of seven silos for barley malt handling. Thus, the executive’s management has brought strong growth prospects for cargo movement to the Pernambuco complex.
Cargo Movement Sees Significant Increase in the Port Complex, and Dredging of the Complex Will Allow for Expansion of These Numbers with Large Ships
Even before the completion of the dredging works at the Port of Recife, cargo movement in the complex had already been showing strong growth, and only during the month of June, the port had an increase of 90.24% in movement, marking the most productive June in the last three years. During this period, a total of 31 ships passed through the Pernambuco capital and handled 109,625 tons of products, a significant number compared to the 57,625 tons in 2021.
Among the main products handled in the Pernambuco complex, the standout items are wheat, soda ash, barley malt, and fertilizers. Thus, José Lindoso, president of the Port of Recife, commented that “This growth of out-of-season fertilizers is linked to the global scenario, war, and difficulty in supplying the product. As importers cannot afford to neglect their customers, they have been moving larger quantities of fertilizers to ensure stock.”
Beverage companies have been heavily utilizing barley malt and soda ash for their productions, and consequently, the product closed June with a growth of 80.9%, handling 19,904 tons. Now, with the completion of the dredging works, even larger ships will arrive at the complex and allow for an increase in this number.
