Products such as soybeans (+ US$ 500 million), vegetable oils and fats (+ US$ 220 million), sugar (+ US$ 240 million), and poultry (+ US$ 25 million) contributed to this surplus.
In relation to soybeans, MS sold 1.5 million more tons in 2020 compared to the volume exported in 2019. It also more than doubled the volume of vegetable and animal oil and fat exported during the same period: from 442 thousand tons to 1.029 million tons.

The main product of exports from the ports of Mato Grosso do Sul – MS remains cellulose, both in volume and in value. The exported volume increased (from 4.232 million tons in 2019 to 5.538 million tons in 2020), although due to the decrease in commodity prices, the value recorded last year (US$ 1.667 billion) was lower than that of 2019 (US$ 1.980 billion).
“One of the things that allowed the Government of the State of MS to sustain the revenue from ports and exports was the dynamics of the export sector, as we grew compared to last year, with excellent performance from soybeans, with the recovery of sugar, which is a product that has bounced back. Beef has been steady, and the poultry sector, with a growth of 18.59%, this entire set allowed the dynamics of agriculture in this first semester to be maintained,” commented Secretary Jaime Verruck of Semagro.
