Petrobras found signs of oil in the Santos Basin, Brazilian pre-salt. The hydrocarbon was located in the Uirapuru block, in well 1-BRSA-1373B-SPS, at a depth of almost 2 thousand meters (1,995 m). The well began its drilling operations in December 2019, using the drillship West Tellus.

The Uirapuru block was acquired with considerable competition in the 4th Round of Sharing, held in 2018. The area received four bids from oil companies. The winner was formed by the consortium Equinor (28%), ExxonMobil (28%), and Petrogal (14%), surpassing the offer made by Petrobras, BP, and Total.

However, Petrobras exercised its right of preference for the asset and entered with a 30% stake and operation in the winning consortium.
Recently, Shell also found signs of oil in another well in the pre-salt. The oil company drilled in the South Gato do Mato block, also belonging to the Santos Basin, with a water depth of 2,048 meters.
