The president of Petrobras, Jean Paul Prates, attended the International Energy Forum (IEF) 2023 in Oslo, Norway, on November 13. He discussed the Brazilian context and the company’s new strategic drivers in an opening panel on oil and gas. Additionally, present were the Director of Energy Transition, Maurício Tolmasquim; the CEO of Norwegian Energy Partners, Ann Christin Andersen; Norway’s Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Astrid Bergmål; the Director of Rystad Energy, Iben Fürst Frimann-Dahl; the Vice President and Global Head of Greenfield Projects at Equinor, Håvard Stensrud; and the CEO of Aker Solutions, Kjetel Digre.

‘We are very focused on new ventures and opportunities in the Brazilian market. We are extremely motivated by our responsibility and our goal of transforming Petrobras into a company genuinely committed to the energy transition in the country’, stated President Jean Paul Prates in his first activity during the mission to the Nordic countries.

The event addressed the initiatives of oil companies to reduce emissions and drive the energy transition, preserve the environment, combat climate change, and promote public health, as well as how this strategy also fosters innovation, job creation, and ensures a sustainable future. Norway, Brazil, and Guyana are the countries expected to receive the highest investments in offshore exploration in the coming years.

Petrobras’ Strategies for the Future

The president highlighted the main strategic objectives, which include prioritizing employee well-being, seeking profitable and sustainable investments, promoting the decarbonization of oil and gas, improving refining infrastructure, driving sustainable development, strengthening supply chains, and positioning Petrobras as a leader in the global energy transition.

The president emphasized that Petrobras is committed to the transition to cleaner energy sources, seeking partnerships with companies specializing in advanced technological solutions to advance in this process alongside oil production.

The Director of Energy Transition, Maurício Tolmasquim, participated in the panel discussing market opportunities related to hydrogen. During the event, current global trends for hydrogen implementation were presented, as well as financing models and market outlooks. This meeting provided a broader understanding of the sector’s growth, investment opportunities, and the market dynamics related to hydrogen.

In the evening, the president delivered a speech at the IEF 2023 SUMMIT, an event aimed at high-level executives and CEOs of companies in the energy sector. For the next day (11/14), Prates has a bilateral meeting scheduled with Norway’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, Terje Aasland, and will also participate in a workshop at the Norwegian Export Credit Agency (EKSFIN), which is part of Norway’s Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Fisheries.

The trip includes visits to Norway, Denmark, and the Netherlands. During the stay, the president will visit the Danish Energy Agency to discuss regulatory issues, market outlooks, and plans for the renewable energy sector in the country.

To conclude the mission, the president and the Director of Logistics, Marketing, and Markets, Cláudio Schlosser, will go to the Port of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, to participate in business meetings and explore commercial opportunities, in addition to visiting the Petrobras office.

Technical Mission and IEF 2023
