In Espírito Santo, the municipality of Presidente Kennedy bets on sustainability with new solar plants. The investment of R$ 36 million promises to increase clean energy generation, strengthen the local economy, and benefit more than 9,000 families with renewable electricity
In an important milestone for the advancement of sustainability in Brazil, the municipality of Presidente Kennedy, located on the southern coast of Espírito Santo, inaugurated two new solar plants on September 19, 2025.
The project was made possible through a strategic partnership with the Development Bank of Espírito Santo (Bandes) and represents an investment exceeding R$ 36 million. The goal is to increase the generation of solar energy and directly benefit more than 9,000 households in Espírito Santo.
Expansion of Clean Energy in Presidente Kennedy
The new solar plants, operated by Apolo Solar and Terra do Sol Nascente, have a installed capacity of 9.8 megawatt-peak (MWp). This power is sufficient to supply approximately 9,000 households, promoting significant savings on consumers’ electricity bills and contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Argentina debuts its first 100% solar-powered highway and transforms an entire road into a showcase of clean energy.
During the inauguration ceremony, Vice Governor Ricardo Ferraço highlighted the municipality’s leadership, stating that Presidente Kennedy is one of the leaders in the production of solar energy in Espírito Santo, establishing itself as a municipality focused on renewable sources.
In addition to environmental benefits, the project reinforces Espírito Santo’s role as a national reference in energy transition, aligning with global sustainability commitments.
Strategic Investment for Regional Development
The financing for the solar plants was carried out through the Economic Development Fund of the Southern State of Espírito Santo (Fundesul), managed by Bandes. Apolo Solar contracted R$ 9.6 million and Terra do Sol Nascente, R$ 26.7 million, totaling R$ 36.3 million in investment.
This financing model uses resources from oil royalties — a non-renewable energy source — to promote the energy transition towards clean and renewable sources. According to Marcos Kneip, Bandes’ Business Director, this project shows that sustainable development is not only viable but represents the smartest and most necessary direction for the future.
The intelligent use of public resources demonstrates how well-structured policies can accelerate the adoption of sustainable technologies and generate a positive impact on the population’s lives.
Structure of Solar Plants and Direct Impact
| Company | Investment (R$) | Capacity (MWp) | Households Served | Jobs Created |
| Apolo Solar | 9.6 million | 2.8 | ~3,600 | 30 |
| Terra do Sol Nascente | 26.7 million | 7.0 | ~5,400 | 50 |
| Total | 36.3 million | 9.8 | ~9,000 | 80 |
In addition to generating solar energy, the works created approximately 80 direct and indirect jobs, strengthening the local economy and promoting social inclusion. The installation of the plants also stimulated the engineering, logistics, and services sectors, generating opportunities for companies and professionals in the region.
Espírito Santo as a Reference in Clean Energy
The inauguration of the solar plants in Presidente Kennedy reinforces the role of Espírito Santo as one of the Brazilian states most committed to energy transition. The state already has several initiatives focused on sustainability, and the project of the solar farms represents a significant advancement in this scenario.
The president of Bandes, Marcelo Saintive, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that the investments demonstrate the bank’s commitment to sustainability and its strategic role in strengthening the productive chains of the region.
With the increasing demand for renewable sources, Espírito Santo positions itself as a hub of innovation and environmental responsibility, attracting new ventures and consolidating its image as a green territory.
Presidente Kennedy Uses Accessible and Smart Consumption Model
The system adopted by the solar plants works as a fraction rental model of the plant. Consumers receive energy credits proportional to their participation, which are automatically converted by the distributor into discounts on their electricity bill.
Victor Abikair, representative of the solar farms, states that the cost per kilowatt-hour in this model is lower than that of traditional distributors, guaranteeing an immediate reduction in the electricity bill.
This model, already widely used in states like Minas Gerais, has gained acceptance in other regions of the country. It allows even consumers without physical space for the installation of solar panels to benefit from clean energy, democratizing access to the technology.
Remote Monitoring and Operational Transparency
The operation of the plants is monitored in real time by remote monitoring systems, which generate detailed reports and graphs on energy performance. This ensures transparency, efficiency, and security for consumers and investors.
The use of cutting-edge technology allows for quick adjustments in the event of failures, as well as facilitating the management of energy production and distribution. This type of control is essential to ensure the reliability of the system and the satisfaction of users.
Abikair also highlighted the role of Bandes as a facilitator, stating that the bank has expanded its role in supporting new ventures in the state, acting as a strategic partner that goes beyond offering credit lines.
Presidente Kennedy’s Leadership in Solar Energy
The mayor of Presidente Kennedy, Fábio Feliciano de Oliveira, celebrated the positive impact of the project, emphasizing that it marks a significant advancement for our municipality, by promoting the generation of clean and renewable energy, boosting sustainability, and creating new opportunities for residents.
The initiative strengthens the image of the municipality as a national reference in solar energy production, complementing its already established role in the oil industry. With the inauguration of the solar plants, Presidente Kennedy enhances its energy vocation and stands out as an example of public management focused on the future.
Paths to a Sustainable Future
The inauguration of the two solar plants in Presidente Kennedy, in Espírito Santo, represents a landmark in Brazil’s energy transition. With a robust investment of R$ 36 million, made possible by Bandes, the project promotes the generation of clean energy, reduces environmental impacts, strengthens the local economy, and improves the quality of life for thousands of families.
More than just an infrastructure project, this represents a paradigm shift: using fossil resources to finance renewable sources is a smart and necessary strategy in the face of global climate challenges. The model adopted by the solar farms also shows that it is possible to make clean energy accessible, efficient, and economically viable.
By prioritizing renewable sources and accessible consumption models, Espírito Santo positions itself as a leader in building a greener, fairer, and more efficient future. The experience of Presidente Kennedy can serve as inspiration for other Brazilian municipalities seeking sustainable and inclusive solutions.
