With a height of 126 meters and a rotor diameter of 158 meters, the first turbines installed by GE can operate at a power output of 4.8 MW to 5.1 MW. According to Mauricio Vieira, Sales Director for GE’s Wind division in Brazil, this is a milestone for the company and for the wind energy sector in Brazil. The company has been investing in this sector for more than 10 years and, according to him, this is the perfect opportunity to generate more clean and renewable energy through wind turbines in Bahia.

Brazil is generating so much clean energy that the ONS had to implement an unprecedented emergency plan to contain the solar and wind surplus in the grid.
The turbines allow for significant improvements in annual energy production and have greater efficiency when it comes to maintenance. The executive also states that the turbine was designed to take advantage of wind conditions, significantly reducing costs and increasing the ability to serve clients.
GE’s Objective In The Brazilian Market
In addition to offering the Brazilian market a new technology, like the one used in Bahia, GE’s commitment to local production is also a major highlight. About 60% of the components produced in Brazil, with approximately 20 suppliers in 5 states, were developed by GE to make the manufacturing of Cypress a reality in Brazilian territory. The assembly of the wind turbines is done at GE’s factory in Camaçari, Bahia.
The company intends to continue investing in technologies, innovation, and development for the wind energy market in Brazil, which aims to grow even more. Recently, wind energy in Brazil reached 18 GW of installed capacity, according to data from the Brazilian Wind Energy Association. Out of 8,300 installed wind turbines, approximately 3,000 of them were installed by GE.
