Prince William Allocates 1 Million Pounds, About R$ 7 Million, to the Brazilian Project Re.green to Restore 1 Million Hectares and Capture Up to 15 Million Tons of CO₂ Annually in the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon
Prince William invested 1 million British pounds, about R$ 7 million, in the keyword Re.green, winner of the Earthshot Prize 2025, to enhance the restoration of the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon, aiming to restore 1 million hectares and capture up to 15 million tons of CO₂ annually.
Re.green Expands Large-Scale Forest Restoration
The funding was directed to the Brazilian company re.green, winner of one of the categories of the Earthshot Prize 2025, an environmental award created by the heir to the British throne to promote innovative solutions to the climate crisis.
The recognized initiative combines artificial intelligence, satellite imagery, and ecological data to restore degraded areas at scale.

Re.green’s goal is to recover 1 million hectares of native forest and capture up to 15 million tons of CO₂ annually.
Goal Includes Millions of Seedlings by 2032
Founded in 2021, the company has already cultivated about six million seedlings and plans to plant more than 65 million by 2032.
Currently, operations focus on more than 34,000 hectares in Bahia, Pará, Maranhão, and Mato Grosso.
Projects are developed in areas of degraded pastures. Re.green directs efforts to restore strategic biomes, focusing on the Atlantic Forest and the Amazon, expanding the scale of environmental intervention.
Technology Guides Selection of Areas and Native Species
Before planting, re.green uses drones, satellites, and proprietary algorithms to identify regions with the highest potential for environmental recovery and climate return.
The mapping defines areas with higher technical viability.
Based on the analysis, the company acquires or leases rural properties and establishes the most suitable restoration model for each location. The priority is given to native species of each biome.
Continuous Monitoring and Carbon Credits
The monitoring of areas is continuous and evaluates both forest regeneration and carbon capture. The captured volume is converted into credits traded with interested companies.
According to CEO Thiago Picolo, restoring forests goes beyond planting trees and requires technical and scientific planning. Re.green structures its operations based on this principle.
The Earthshot Prize 2025 ceremony took place in Rio de Janeiro and marked the first edition of the award in Latin America, reinforcing Brazil’s prominence in the global and international environmental agenda.
