Friends and Neighboring Ports Are Searching for the 56-Year-Old Crew Member Missing on the Tugboat
The search is being conducted by teams from the Port Authority and friends of the victim. According to family members of the Chief Engineer Eric Barcelos Rangel, the tugboat sank after hitting a rock, he tried to steer away but ran out of time.
On the tugboat that sank, there were also two crew members who were rescued on Monday (2) by a passing ship and are currently at the State Emergency Hospital (HEUE) in Vitória.

The Crew Member Was Retired, but Due to His Experience Was Frequently Called
According to the crew member Eric’s family, the man was already retired, but due to his experience, he was still called to work on vessels.
On Sunday morning, Eric and the other two crew members left Vitória heading to the Port of Açu in São João da Barra, in Northern Fluminense, where they were expected to arrive on Monday. Eric last contacted his family when he passed the Third Bridge.
After being rescued at sea in the early hours of Monday, the other two crew members, who were weak and showing signs of hypothermia, reported that the sinking occurred near Escalvada Island. At the time of the accident, there was a strong wind and the sea was rough.
