Omni Táxi Aéreo Completes Offshore Exploratory Operation in Argentina Using Electric Winch and Flight Coordination with Support from Local Civil Aviation Authority.
Omni Táxi Aéreo recently concluded an offshore exploratory operation in Argentina, utilizing a sophisticated electric winch and performing precise flight coordination. This complex mission had the essential support of the local civil aviation authority, ensuring the operation was a success.
Reinforcing its position in the market, Omni Táxi Aéreo stood out as an approved Brazilian civil operator, being the only one authorized by ANAC to perform personnel lifts by winch. This fact places the company at a differentiated level, showcasing the helicopter company’s ability to execute critical and high-complexity missions.
Omni Táxi Aéreo achieved remarkable success at the end of June through an international operation conducted in Argentina. This mission supported the exploratory operation of Equinor’s CAN block, located 300 km from Mar del Plata. The aircraft were specially equipped with electric winches for potential rescue needs at sea. One aircraft remained on the ground while another conducted regular passenger exchanges, ensuring the continuity of operations.
Partnership with Helicópteros Marinos
This entire operation was accomplished in partnership with Helicópteros Marinos, a renowned local air operator with over 35 years of experience that provided commercial support, logistical, customs, and assistance with the local civil aviation authority (ANAC). Omni Táxi Aéreo is recognized as the only Brazilian civil operator approved by ANAC for personnel lifting via winch, with a specialized team that includes winch operators and, in certain situations, divers/rescuers. These professionals undergo recurrent training, ensuring high effectiveness in complex missions.

In addition to Brazil, the OHI Group offers this type of operation through its affiliate in Guyana, where it operates a Sikorsky S92 aircraft specially dedicated to search and rescue missions. This aircraft is equipped with a double winch, triple stretcher, and other cutting-edge equipment.
Dedication and Recognition
‘We are proud of our work’, stated Décio Galvão, Commercial Director of Omni Táxi Aéreo, upon completing the operation with praise from Helicópteros Marinos and the final client. The experience allowed the Omni team to experience different operational situations unknown in Brazil, thus enriching their knowledge and qualifying them even more for future challenges.
The contract of Omni Táxi Aéreo was fulfilled with two AW139 helicopters, including pilots, mechanics, and flight coordinators, in addition to all necessary technical support. During the 64 days of operation, 111 flights were conducted, totaling 239 flight hours, with the transportation of 1,228 passengers and an operational availability of 100%, with no records of accidents or incidents, something significant highlighted by Décio Galvão.
Operational Challenges
The operation faced challenging offshore atmospheric conditions in southern Argentina, characterized by strong winds, cloudiness, shorter days, and freezing water temperatures. This demanded effective integration of planning, coordination, and execution by multidisciplinary teams, along with a series of preliminary activities.
