The increase of 66 cents, equivalent to 13.3%, is already in effect throughout the capital of Minas Gerais. But there is good news for those who planned ahead: credits purchased before the change remain valid until they run out, as do the bonuses. See how much it costs now, why it went up, and how the system works.

Parking on the streets of Belo Horizonte has become a bit more expensive this month. Those who use the rotating spaces in the capital of Minas Gerais have been paying more since June 1, 2026, with the electronic credit rising from R$ 4.95 to R$ 5.61, in the first tariff adjustment in almost three years, justified by the city hall with the application of the accumulated IPCA in the period.

The increase, of 66 cents or about 13.3%, was made official through an ordinance by BHTrans, the company that manages traffic in the city, published in the Official Gazette of the Municipality on May 28, 2026. It is not a change in the rules of use, but a correction in the price of the credit. According to the Belo Horizonte City Hall, the last time the rotating tariff had been adjusted was in October 2023. Next, we explain how much it costs now, what changes in practice, and how the rotating parking system works in the capital.

How much it costs to park in rotating spaces now

The new value is already in effect throughout the city.

Since June 1, 2026, the electronic credit used to pay for rotating spaces in Belo Horizonte costs R$ 5.61, compared to the R$ 4.95 previously charged, an adjustment of 66 cents which is equivalent to an increase of approximately 13.3% over the old price.

According to the Belo Horizonte City Hall, this was the first tariff adjustment since October 2023, that is, after almost three years without an increase.

The municipal administration justifies the correction with the application of the IPCA, the Broad National Consumer Price Index, accumulated in the period, while BHTrans also cites the variation in the operational costs of the system since the last adjustment.

With a single credit, the driver can park in marked spaces for periods of 1, 2, 5, or 12 hours, according to the rule of each section.

What changes for those who already had credits

Here is the point that most interests those who use the system frequently.

The new value of R$ 5.61 applies only to electronic credits purchased from June 1st, in accredited apps or sales points, while credits bought before this date remain valid normally until the balance is exhausted, without the need to cover the difference.

Similarly, according to the city hall, the bonuses that guarantee 30 minutes of parking also remain valid.

In practice, this means that those who anticipated and bought credits at the old price, until May 31st, can still use them at the previous price until they run out.

Only after that will they start paying the new rate, which slightly eases the immediate impact of the adjustment on drivers’ pockets.

Summary of the adjustmentPrevious value: R$ 4.95. New value: R$ 5.61 (increase of R$ 0.66, about 13.3%). In effect since June 1st, 2026.

Applies to credits purchased from this date; old credits and 30-minute bonuses remain valid until the end. Information from the Belo Horizonte City Hall and BHTrans.

How the Belo Horizonte Rotating Parking Works

For those unfamiliar with the system, it’s worth understanding how it operates.

The Rotating Parking, formerly known as the blue zone, is implemented in areas where the number of vehicles needing to park exceeds the number of available spaces, aiming to increase the availability of spaces in regions with a high concentration of commerce, services, and leisure, according to the Belo Horizonte City Hall.

Payment is made digitally: the driver purchases electronic credits through accredited apps or sales points and activates the use of the space for the desired time.

According to the city hall, the revenue collected from the system is applied to improvements in the city’s road system, such as maintenance and implementation of signage, traffic operation, traffic enforcement, and safety and education programs.

Operating Hours and Days

Knowing when payment is required avoids fines and headaches.

According to the Belo Horizonte City Hall, the Rotating Parking system operates from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 6 pm, and on Saturdays from 8 am to 1 pm, with some locations not requiring the use of digital credit on Saturdays, which varies according to the city region.

On Sundays and holidays, there is no need to use the rotating digital credit, meaning it is possible to park in marked spaces without paying on these days.

It is worth checking the signage of each location and the allowed time before leaving the vehicle, as the maximum time rules may change from one section to another.

In case of doubt, the driver can consult the accredited apps or the city hall’s website.

The adjustment in the rotating parking spaces of Belo Horizonte, which raised the electronic credit to R$ 5.61, is a modest increase in absolute value, but it affects the routine and budget of thousands of drivers who depend on the system every day in the capital of Minas Gerais.

With the city hall’s justification based on the accumulated inflation since 2023 and the assurance that the old credits remain valid, the impact tends to be gradual.

In any case, it’s worth paying attention to the new values, the charging times, and the rules of each area to avoid surprises and make good use of the system.

And you, do you usually use the rotating parking spaces in Belo Horizonte or in your city? What do you think about the new parking fee in the capital of Minas Gerais? Leave your comment, share your opinion, and help spread the word to other drivers who also need to be aware of this change.
