New Pass for Uber Drivers begins testing in 12 Brazilian cities and offers partners the possibility to replace the traditional service fee with a fixed charge, with options by time or by earnings, values between R$ 19 and R$ 97 and full transfer of trips within the rules established by the platform.
Uber started testing a new charging model for partner drivers on May 25. The initiative began in Uruguaiana, in the Western Border of Rio Grande do Sul, and was also released for another 11 Brazilian municipalities.
The feature was named Driver Pass. The proposal allows partners to make trips by paying a fixed amount, starting to receive 100% of the trip value in the weekly total, according to the conditions established by the platform.
The testing phase also includes the cities of Divinópolis (MG), Imperatriz (MA), Itabuna (BA), Ilhéus (BA), Porto Velho (RO), Rio Branco (AC), Cascavel (PR), Petrópolis (RJ), Juiz de Fora (MG), Teresina (PI) and Botucatu (SP).

According to information released by Uber itself, the amounts currently charged range from R$ 19 to R$ 97, depending on the option chosen by the driver.

Uber creates two options to replace the traditional service fee
The new system was developed with two contracting options. Each of them has specific usage rules within the Uber Driver app.
The first option is the Pass by Time. In this option, the driver pays a fixed fee valid for 24 hours or 72 consecutive hours, according to their preference.
The second alternative is the Pass by Earnings. In this format, the partner makes a single payment and continues making trips without additional service fee charges until reaching a maximum earnings limit defined by the platform itself.
Both modes can be consulted and changed directly in the app, offering flexibility during the testing period.
Pass selection occurs before the first eligible trip
The driver needs to define which mode will be used as the default before starting to operate with the new system.
The configuration allows selecting the Time Pass or the Earnings Pass. Changes can be made later, as long as they occur before the next activation.
If no choice is made, Uber’s system will automatically select one of the available modes for the partner.
Information released by the company indicates that the default choice remains active until the driver decides to change it within the app.
Activation occurs automatically after the first valid ride
The pass becomes operational automatically after the completion of the first trip deemed eligible by the system.
The procedure eliminates the need for manual activation before starting the rides.
This mechanism was developed so that the use of the feature occurs integrated with the normal workflow of partners registered on the platform.
Charge is made directly to the Uber wallet
The charge for the pass occurs only after activation is completed.
The discount is made directly from the available balance in the driver’s Uber wallet.
Situations where there is not enough balance have also been considered by the platform. In these cases, the amount is recorded as a negative balance.
Compensation occurs later through future earnings obtained by the partner during the rides.
Renewal occurs automatically after the pass ends
The system also provides for automatic renewal of the mode chosen as default.
In the Time Pass, renewal occurs when the contracted period of 24 hours or 72 hours ends.
In the Earnings Pass, renewal happens when the maximum earnings limit is reached or when the pass completes 180 days of validity.
After the end of any of the modes, a new automatic activation occurs after the next eligible trip made by the driver.
Uber Test Temporarily Changes Billing Method in Selected Cities
The launch of the Driver Pass represents a change in how the service fee is applied to partners participating in the pilot project.
During the testing period, drivers in the selected cities can choose to replace the traditional billing with a fixed amount, following the rules defined by the platform.
Data released by Uber on May 25 shows that the feature was created to offer a subscription-based billing alternative, allowing participants to receive 100% of the trip value in the weekly total under the conditions established by the app.
