Smart Robots Are Being Developed, At Uber’s Request, To Be Part Of Delivery Fleet That Does Not Rely On Humans
After being forced to sell its fleet of self-driving cars in 2020, Uber wants to invest in a somewhat controversial proposal. The project is to have its own “convoy” of smart robots to make deliveries.
Uber’s smart robot prototype was developed by Cartken, and each unit can carry up to eleven kilograms, as well as having integrated camera sensors and six wheels. The company aims to no longer need drivers to carry out Uber Eats deliveries, the smart robots will take care of everything.
The testing phase will be conducted in Dadeland, a district of Miami, Florida. If expectations are met, the idea will be taken to other cities throughout 2023.

According to Noah Zych, Uber’s global head of deliveries, Miami is a prosperous market for Uber Eats and the company claims it is excited to bring smart robot delivery tests to its residents. The statement was made in an interview last Thursday, the 15th.
It is important to note that similar smart robots are used in other places, such as colleges in the United States, for example, and have a very good acceptance level.
However, in this project where Uber is at the center, acceptance may not be so easy, and while it has the potential to significantly alter the delivery field in the coming years, it may create labor issues due to registered workers.
It is worth highlighting that one of Uber’s three original founders, Oscar Salazar, said in an interview in 2016 that, in the future, smart robots would be used to perform tasks previously done only by humans. It seems that this future is arriving.
Uber’s Smart Robots Would Be A Great Attraction Here In Brazil, If The Company Still Operated With Delivery Service Here
Here in Brazil, this would be a big novelty, but the Uber Eats service has been discontinued in Brazil. However, the company is not the first to believe in the implementation of technology to give a “boost” to deliveries. Retailers Walmart and Amazon also intend to follow this path.
Amazon has already gone through a testing phase with the Scout robot, however the project, which was only experimental, was paused for an update and improvement. This is already a clear sign that major networks are looking for options to rely less on human labor.
