In Addition to Using Clean Energy, Entering the New Axis Required by Law, the Huge American Bank Will Generate a Series of New Jobs.
The large American bank JPMorgan Chase revealed on Monday (18) its plans for the new global headquarters, which consists of a 60-story skyscraper, fully powered by clean and renewable energy sources. Some other features, such as the energy-efficient design, include triple-glazed windows and a water reuse storage system, potentially reducing usage by about 40%. The skyscraper will also use smart construction technology, which involves the use of sensors to monitor and reduce energy consumption.
JPMorgan Chase Will Build Skyscraper, Fully Powered by Clean Energy
The completion of JPMorgan Chase’s 60-story skyscraper is scheduled for 2025. Once completed, the 423-meter-high building will become the tallest 100% clean energy-powered building in New York City, according to data provided by Foster + Partners, the architecture and engineering firm responsible for the project.
During the official announcement to the press, JPMorgan Chase and Foster + Partners reported that the skyscraper will achieve net zero operational emissions, with part of its energy sourced from a hydroelectric plant in New York.

The construction of the skyscraper has already begun on the site where the 215-meter Union Carbide Building used to stand. Architects reported that around 97% of the construction materials from the predecessor of the skyscraper will be reused or recycled.
A completely new and unique design promises to occupy more than double the outdoor space at ground level. But the building will be complete, featuring a public square and wide sidewalks. According to Norman Foster, founder and architect of Foster + Partners, he called the project a “new landmark that responds to its historic location.”
Throughout his speech about the skyscraper, Foster stated that the tower’s design is unique and meets the challenge of respecting both the rhythm and the distinct urban passage of Park Avenue. Foster also spoke about the site’s infrastructure, which will accommodate city transport, resulting in a solution he called “elegant” in terms of structure, allowing JPMorgan Chase to embrace a new vision, both now and in the future.
Generation of New Jobs
After the pandemic period, JPMorgan Chase is now focused on the future, to recover economically and also return to in-person work, therefore, the new tower can accommodate up to 14,000 employees in over 700 million square feet of space.
The skyscraper’s design offers occupants various facilities aimed at everyone’s well-being, including air filtration systems, a health and fitness center, indoor vegetation, and motion sensor technology.
The tower is located at 270 Park Avenue and is part of one of the most comprehensive plans ever devised, which is the transformation of a 78-block stretch of Midtown East in New York. In 2017, local authorities voted for the rezoning of the neighborhood, with De Blasio in charge of NY at the time, who promised major upgrades to subway stations, along with more pedestrian space, investments in its iconic landmarks, and a new generation of office buildings in the area.
Opening Forecast for the World’s Largest Renewable Energy-Powered Skyscraper
The opening is scheduled for 2025 and will already meet the standards required by the new law approved by former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, which restricts the use of fossil fuels in all new residential and commercial buildings starting in 2023. The new legislation requires new constructions to make buildings that use 100% clean energy by 2027.
The bill was introduced last year by New York State Senator Brian Kavanagh and Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, who proposed to reduce NYC’s carbon emissions by millions of tons, ensuring that low-income residents also have access to renewable energy. According to local authorities, it is estimated that around 70% of NYC’s greenhouse gas emissions come from large buildings.
