Today, February 25, 2021, a BRL 1 billion investment plan for the revitalization of the Furnas system was presented at the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, who praised his appointee to take over as president of Petrobras, General Joaquim Silva e Luna, who, before assuming the position at the state-owned company, was the general director of Itaipu Binacional.

Revitalization Of The System:
The plant stated that the revitalization of the transmission lines is essential to increase Brazil’s energy security in the coming decades, as the Furnas system has been in operation for 36 years and has reached the end of its life.
According to Itaipu, the investment will be around BRL 1 billion, which will contribute to Brazil’s gross profit in the next five years. The investment will be allocated to modernizing the equipment responsible for transmitting energy.

Improvements In The Electricity Sector:
At the ceremony, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, emphasized the importance of improving Brazil’s energy transmission system.
“In the next 60 months, companies will extend the useful life of the installations, providing operational reliability to the transmission system. By modernizing the system, we will be ensuring Brazilian consumers adequate electric service without interruptions. I do not think I am exaggerating when I say that we are taking a concrete step today towards increasing the country’s energy security,” concluded the Minister of Mines and Energy.
