Revival of Brazilian Shipbuilding! Modifications to the FPSO P-71 Will Be Made at Jurong Aracruz Shipyard, and More Job Opportunities Are Being Created in the Region
It’s the turn of the Jurong Aracruz shipyard! Shipbuilding in Brazil is recovering and many projects have been announced. Recently, Brasfels in Angra dos Reis and Edison Chouest Shipyard in Santa Catarina also announced new contracts and job openings.
The shipbuilding sector in Brazil is recovering, and shipyards are frequently securing contracts, generating job openings in the industry. Sembcorp Marine Ltd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Jurong Aracruz Shipyard (EJA), secured a Contract Addendum from Tupi BV valued at approximately US $ 175 million for modification work to be completed on the Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) Unit P-71, and more opportunities are being generated in the region.
Originally designed for the Tupi field, the FPSO P-71 will undergo modifications and integration at EJA for deployment in the Itapu field. The scope of work for EJA includes modifying existing systems and integrating additional systems into the platform (the “Project”).
Measuring 316m in length and 54m in width, the FPSO P-71 is capable of handling 150,000 barrels of oil per day and six million cubic meters of natural gas in operation. It has a storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels of oil and can accommodate 160 people. The delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the last quarter of 2022.
EJA Is Known for Being One of the Largest and Most Advanced Shipyards in Brazil
Mr. Guhan Thangavelu, President of EJA, said: “Our Shipyard (EJA) is known for being one of the largest and most advanced shipyards in Brazil for offshore products and solutions and is strategically located on the east coast of Brazil to support developments in Atlantic fields, Gulf of Mexico sectors, and West Africa. This project offers an opportunity to showcase EJA’s capabilities to execute complex large-scale engineering projects with rapid design adaptation and superior subsea layout.”
“We thank Tupi B.V. and its partners for choosing Sembcorp Marine and the EJA team to deliver another floating unit to enhance their world-class assets for deployment in deep and ultra-deep waters. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, we remain committed to safe and timely project execution.”
In September 2019, EJA delivered the new FPSO P-68 to Tupi B.V., which is currently installed in the ultra-deepwater fields of Berbigão and Sururu in the Santos Basin, Brazil.
No material impact on the Company’s consolidated tangible net assets and earnings per share for the year ending December 31, 2021, is expected from the contract modification.
