At 102 years old, Antônio de Medeiros drives his own car every day to the Sesi Gym in Bauru to maintain a weight training routine that draws attention for its energy, discipline, and camaraderie.

Routine starts early and continues as a daily commitment

Known as Mr. Medeiros, the retiree repeats a simple ritual before leaving home. Very early, he puts on his hat, wears a polo shirt, grabs his gloves, and heads for another workout.

The routine includes weight machines and exercises with weights. The habit has become a fixed part of the day, like a personal commitment he fulfills with willingness and discipline.

Weight training at 102 also impresses because Mr. Medeiros goes alone to the location, driving his own car. At the facility, he maintains a daily presence.

From swimming to gym equipment

In an interview with G1, Antônio de Medeiros said he started exercising even before retirement. It began around the age of 69 or 70 when he frequented swimming pools.

In the initial phase, the activity was swimming. About ten years later, between 2008 and 2009, he returned to training but focused on equipment and weights.

Over time, the gym became an extension of his home. Mr. Medeiros started clocking in daily, always with energy and friendliness.

Weight training at 102 without special adaptation

Professor Wendell Lima states that Antônio de Medeiros has excellent posture and body awareness. According to him, the centenarian student does not need any kind of adaptation to train.

Wendell explains that, like any student, Mr. Medeiros has days when he wants to do different exercises. In these situations, the team allows changes, always under the observation of professionals.

Among the regulars, the retiree is seen as an inspiration. Student Carla Catarin states that he represents a life example for being lucid, happy, and showing quality of life.

She also says that his presence encourages other students. When he is at the gym, Mr. Medeiros transforms the environment into a more pleasant place.
