Investments from Atlantic Nickel
The investment from Atlantic Nickel, focusing on the growing battery market, is expected to be made in the first five years of project development, according to the Economic Exploitation Plan (PAE), which will extend operations at the Santa Rita Mine for 34 years.
The backing from the mining company, fully owned by Appian, a fund specialized in mining investments, is expected to consolidate Atlantic Nickel as one of the leading suppliers of sulfide nickel in the global market and the only one currently operating in Latin America, according to the company.

Mining Indicates Start of Recovery in Bahia
Mining, one of the sectors with the greatest potential in the Bahian economy, shows signs of recovery. The challenges remain significant, especially for iron ore production projects, due to uncertainties in the external market and logistical deficiencies.
Still, the outlook is positive due to the decline in international stockpiles and the recovery of commodity prices. However, while news regarding iron is mostly about prospects, other segments are seeing information about production growth.
Leader of the Ranking
In 2016, Bahia also led the national ranking in the number of applications for mineral research, with 2,761 processes registered, ahead of Minas Gerais (2,245) and Goiás (1,172). The highlight is the increase in research requests for zinc, a mineral that saw its price rise by 66% last year and is currently in high demand. To seize opportunities and turn potential into reality, the state government began this month discussions with the private sector to identify necessary improvements to the business environment for the sector.
The idea, according to Secretary of Economic Development Jaques Wagner, is to build a state policy for the sector.
