Brazil is Building a Large and Modern Port Complex to Facilitate Trade with Asia, Its Main Market, and Benefit a Number of Productive Sectors
The 1,800-hectare installation, called Porto Central, is located in the coastal city of Presidente Kennedy, in the southeast of Espírito Santo, on the border with the neighboring state of Rio de Janeiro.

Furthermore, in a seminar organized on Tuesday by the General Consulate of China in Rio de Janeiro, the director-general of Porto Central, José Maria Novaes, invited Chinese companies to join the project and take advantage of the port, designed to be the most modern in South America when inaugurated at the end of 2023.
New Frontiers for Brazilian Trade – Industrial Port
“Undoubtedly, Asia, especially China, is Brazil’s largest trading partner, and this international trade flow, mainly of commodities from Brazil to Asia and industrialized products from Asia to Brazil, requires large ships” that few Brazilian ports can accommodate now, Novaes noted.

Four 24-meter suction sails that generate up to 7 times more lift than traditional sails have been installed on a Maersk oil tanker. The autonomous system can reduce consumption by up to 20% and is already recording savings of up to 5.4 tons of fuel per day at sea, with annual cuts potentially reaching thousands of tons on a single vessel.

“There are few ports in Brazil with the capacity to load and unload the world’s large ships. Therefore, this is the differential of the Porto Central project: being able to receive the largest ships in the world, in every class, at each port terminal,” he said.
Industrial Port Will Provide Water, Energy, and Gas at Competitive Prices
“It is an industrial port that enables water, energy, and gas at competitive prices. With terminals for exporting raw materials and semi-finished products, and with flexibility to accommodate the interests of project developers,” he added.
Finally, the Secretary of Development of Espírito Santo, Marcos Kneip, told the seminar participants: “Porto Central is becoming a reality. It is an industrial port complex that will serve oil and gas, mining, and agriculture companies, and will support the offshore industry.”
