Research Indicates That 71.2% of Companies Struggle to Hire Qualified Labor; Free Courses from CPS Aim to Meet Demand for Technical Professionals in the Sector

The construction industry faces a growing obstacle in Brazil: the lack of qualified workers. According to research from the Brazilian Institute of Economics at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV Ibre), 71.2% of companies reported difficulties in hiring professionals between June 2023 and June 2024.

In 39% of cases, the difficulty is deemed high, with labor shortages in installation and finishing stages, which are essential for the progress of construction projects.

Despite the challenging scenario, a solution is already available: professional qualification. Technical training has proven to be an effective alternative to attract more workers and improve employment conditions in the sector.

Furthermore, professionals with appropriate training gain access to more competitive salaries and valued roles.

With this objective, the Paula Souza Center (CPS) offers free courses at the Technical Schools (Etecs) and State Technology Colleges (Fatecs). The programs focus on various areas of construction and aim to directly address market demands.

The courses cover everything from project planning to execution and finishing. Available options at Fatecs include: Building Construction, Project Management, Electrical Installations, Plumbing and Environmental Sanitation, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning. At Etecs, students can take courses in Civil Construction Drawing, Building Construction, and Electrical Engineering.

Enrollment for the Fatecs Entrance Exam is open. Candidates must register online by 3 PM on June 6th. They need to fill out the enrollment form, the socioeconomic questionnaire, and pay the fee of R$ 50, as per the rules outlined in the Candidate Manual and the Entrance Exam Ordinance.

Overall, the selection process offers 12,550 free spots in in-person and distance learning courses spread across 82 units in the State of São Paulo. To compete, students must have completed or be currently enrolled in high school, proving their completion at the time of enrollment.

Candidates can choose one course as their first option and, if desired, indicate a second option, even in another Fatec or time slot. It is also possible to submit more than one application, provided the fee is paid for each attempt.

Information about the Etecs Entrance Exam, which will have spots available for the second semester, will be announced soon on the website www.cps.sp.gov.br.
