Work on the Rota 3 pipeline is well advanced and the flow of pre-salt gas to the UPGN at Comperj will benefit other types of activities in the state of Rio Janeiro within Petrobras' portfolio
to meet Petrobras and other operators, the construction project for the Rota 3 gas pipeline, which aims to transport 18 million cubic meters of gas from the pre-salt layer of the Santos Basin to Comperj, so that it can be processed there and made available to the consumer market, is entering its final stage of construction. There are just a few adjustments left for the works to be completed in the east of the state of Rio de Janeiro.

According to João Leal, director general of the Intermunicipal Consortium for the Development of the East Fluminense (Conleste), in an interview with Portal Petronotícias, the Route 3 gas pipeline is almost ready, with only minor interventions in Maricá and the completion of the UPGN of the former Comperj, which was renamed Polo Gaslub Itaboraí, focusing on natural gas.
The venture will be the largest natural gas processing unit in Petrobras in Brazil and the forecast is that it will start operating from next year. The flow of pre-salt gas to the UPGN at Comperj will benefit other types of activities in the state of RJ, such as the fertilizer, agriculture and tourism industries, according to Leal.

Regarding the progress of the works at Gaslub Itaboraí (formerly Comperj), Leal said that at the beginning of the pandemic, Conleste had an important participation involving the project, involving sanitary procedures that they adopted so as not to freeze the works, as this would bring a very bad delay for the project. According to him, the project is now running at 100% again and is moving forward with its construction.
Approval of the New Gas Law raises expectations for Conleste and the gas pipeline project that will connect pre-salt and Comperj, Route 3
Brazil's natural gas sector is preparing for profound changes. In addition to Petrobras being in the process of radically withdrawing from its gas portfolio, a series of government reforms aim at greater participation and investments in the sector, such as the proposal for the Novo Mercado de Gás, which will be voted on today (25/08).
“Considering this regulatory framework, which I am fully convinced will be legitimized by the National Congress, we are going to inaugurate the era of competitiveness in the energy field of natural gas starting next year”, said Leal.
The executive also added that Route 3 is a gas pipeline that has both a sea and a land part and that the project responsible for the land part was the GTR-3 consortium and Conleste contributes to helping with any and all administrative difficulties with the works or environment departments in the municipalities where Route 3 runs.
