Jurong Shipyard Won the Bid to Build the Navy Ship
The information that the Jurong Shipyard Aracruz, in the state of Espírito Santo, had won the bid for the construction of a new vessel for the Armed Forces was confirmed by the commander of the Brazilian Navy, Admiral Almir Garnier Santos, who announced it yesterday aboard the Multipurpose Aircraft Carrier Atlântico, in the presence of President Jair Bolsonaro.
Regarding the number of jobs, it was informed by the Naval Projects Management Company (Emgepron), a federal state entity in the naval sector. The Jurong Shipyard Aracruz was the winner of the bid, surpassing the finalists Kership S.A.S and Damen Shipyards/Wilson Sons Shipyards. The NApAnt is expected to have capacity for 102 crew members and will be built to replace and perform the same missions as the Oceanographic Support Ship (NApOc) Ary Rongel, with enhanced capabilities based on the Navy’s experience in the Brazilian Antarctic Program (Proantar) and the requirements for supporting the new Antarctic Station Comandante Ferraz.

The structure is being renovated to accommodate the construction of four ships ordered by the Brazilian Navy, a R$ 9 billion project. The first vessel is set to begin construction soon. Steel plates will start being cut in April of next year. The expectation is that the construction of the ships will generate 2,000 direct jobs at the peak of construction and up to 6,000 indirect jobs. For now, there haven’t been any job openings for the production line – but it is common for people to approach the shipyard to leave their resumes.
