Water Crisis Increases Brazilians’ Demand for Solar Energy as a Way to Reduce Electricity Bills at the End of the Month
The interest of Brazilians in solar energy has been driven by constant increases in electricity bills across the country. The water crisis is the main reason for the rise in energy tariffs. In an effort to reduce the impact of electricity at the end of the month, more and more families are venturing into the clean energy sector.
According to the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (Absolar), Brazil has surpassed the mark of 11 gigawatts of solar energy production capacity. The account includes large capacity power plants as well as small systems used by ordinary people on the roofs of homes.
Increase in Demand for Solar Energy in Maceió
In Maceió, electricity costs are also on the rise. In an effort to address the problem, local entrepreneurs are seeking to invest in solar energy to reduce the electricity bill at the end of the month.

Solar energy can increase property value by up to 10% and become a selling point.
“We decided to install solar energy to lower the cost of electricity. Just to give you an idea, at today’s prices, electricity would be around R$ 2500.00. This amount is because our oven is sustainable. We plant and use eucalyptus to save”, said Eduardo Jorge to the Gazeta Web portal.
As there is still a risk of rationing and further increases in electricity bills, the use of solar energy becomes even more advantageous. With installed photovoltaic panels, this problem of instability in energy rates is reduced.
“Today, we pay an average of R$ 300.00. The investment cost for the installation of the panels and the entire solar system has paid off. In 3 years, we will recover the investment,” the entrepreneur added.
Advantages of Using Solar Energy
The growth of solar energy use in Brazil is positive in several aspects. One important point is the reduction of environmental impact, as solar energy is renewable and inexhaustible. See below some more benefits.

- Solar energy is inexhaustible;
- It makes no noise;
- It requires very little maintenance;
- Cheapest energy generation system on the market;
- It does not pollute the environment.
Moreover, with the use of solar energy, the electricity bill at the end of the month can be reduced by up to 90%: “For those who install it, the savings generate around 90% of the amount of the bill paid before installation. Any electricity bill amount is valid for installing the solar system; what changes is the payback period of the investment,” said Geison Alves, an entrepreneur in the sector.
