The Rio Grande Shipyard, in the Ecovix complex, was designed to operate in the shipbuilding area for oil platform construction and support vessels
As an alternative to shipbuilding, last Thursday (09/10), with a forecast to finish this Monday (14), the Rio Grande Shipyard, under the command of Ecovix, began the largest shipment of cattle ever carried out at the port of Rio Grande. About 25,000 animals will be transported to Turkey and Lebanon. The last record occurred in March of this year, when 20,000 head of cattle were sent to Jordan.
The shipyard, which has felt the downturn in shipbuilding in Brazil, has also been shipping metal scrap. In the last 12 months, the shipyard operated on average one vessel per month. The dock has a length of 360 meters; however, it can accommodate two ships of up to 200 meters each.

Four 24-meter suction sails that generate up to 7 times more lift than traditional sails have been installed on a Maersk oil tanker. The autonomous system can reduce consumption by up to 20% and is already recording savings of up to 5.4 tons of fuel per day at sea, with annual cuts potentially reaching thousands of tons on a single vessel.

With €90 million from Europe, €100 million in grants, and support from the World Bank, Egypt is accelerating the construction of a national network with a capacity of nearly 3.6 million tons to transform Port Said into a logistics fortress for grains in the Mediterranean, the ambitious National Silos Project.
The shipment of cattle is being carried out in the area of the Rio Grande Shipyard, of Ecovix, because there is deeper water there, allowing larger vessels to dock in the location.
The Ecovix shipyard, which was originally designed for the construction of platforms and support vessels for oil activities, currently lacks demand in that area.
“For the shipyard, this (cattle shipment) is important, as it helps provide another activity for the complex,” argues Ecovix’s operational director, Ricardo Ávila. According to Estima, agribusiness initiatives at the port of Rio Grande will not be limited to the movement of cattle.
The Ministry of Infrastructure granted authorization for a new port polygon (which defines the terrain for the operation of an organized port) in the Ecovix complex that will allow the CCGL group to expand its terminal Termasa, which will entail an investment of over R$ 600 million.

With the chance of constructing a polar ship at the Ecovix shipyard, a new breath of hope arises for the naval hub of Rio Grande, which will translate into many job vacancies in the region
Ecovix is negotiating an agreement with the Chilean ASMAR to build the first Polar ship at its shipyard in the city of Rio Grande.
According to Ecovix’s operational director, Ricardo Ávila, the project is in the budgeting stage and the deadline for submitting proposals ends on November 11.
This is a different construction; the new project will help the Brazilian naval sector develop even further, acquiring unprecedented knowledge in Brazil, as it is not an oil platform, but a polar ship. It is a complex vessel for the Brazilian Navy.
According to the director of Ecovix, it is still early to estimate the values of this venture and how many workers would be involved in the services. Currently, there are approximately 200 permanent employees working at the shipyard.
The economic crisis in Rio Grande occurred on December 12, 2016, when there were mass layoffs at the Ecovix yard. In 2010, the construction of eight hulls for Petrobras work was planned, which would mean 20 years of work and many jobs.
