A new study highlights the benefits of renewable energy and is helping to change the dialogue surrounding Morocco’s climate policy.

According to the Euro-Mediterranean Forum of Economic Sciences (FEMISE), responsible for the recent study, the shift to the renewable energy market in Morocco will create over 400,000 job openings in the domestic category over the next 20 years.

The findings advocate for increasing future partnerships between the EU, Morocco, and Tunisia in achieving shared environmental goals, explaining that most job openings created in the renewable energy market will be in the labor sector: highly skilled workers to build and maintain wind farms, solar plants, and other energy facilities.

Renewable Energy Market, Women Fill About 32% Of Job Openings

A survey conducted last year by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) on gender perspective indicates that women hold about 32% of job openings in the renewable energy sector. When analyzed in the oil and gas segment, this value drops to 22% of total job openings.

Regarding positions in the renewable energy market, 45% of women hold administrative roles. On the issue of salaries, 60% of men claim that there is pay equality between women and men compared to 29% of women. According to the survey, greater female participation in the renewable energy sector would ensure a balanced distribution of socioeconomic opportunities for the global energy transformation.
