New Signage Installed on BR-277 in Teixeira Soares (PR), Increasing Safety in a Critical Stretch of the Roadway Towards the Port of Paranaguá. The Measure Aims to Reduce Accidents on One of the Busiest Highways in Southern Brazil.
The BR-277, one of the most important highways in Paraná that connects Foz do Iguaçu to the Port of Paranaguá, has just received a significant boost in road safety.
The concessionaire Via Araucária installed a new intelligent signage, providing more protection to drivers traveling through one of the stretches with the highest rate of accidents on days with low visibility.
Green Lane Is Not a Bike Lane or Emergency Corridor
The new signage, which completely deviates from conventional standards, raised doubts on social media and among truck driver groups: “Is it a bike lane? Emergency corridor? Something experimental?”. But after all, what does this green lane mean?

The answer came from ANTT (National Land Transport Agency) and the concessionaire Via Araucária: the lime green lane is a special signage developed to enhance visibility in areas with heavy fog— a common and dangerous problem in the region known for high rates of accidents under low visibility.
The color was chosen for its ability to stand out even in dense fog, where traditional white and yellow lanes lose visibility.
The stretch covered by the new signage is located in the municipality of São Luiz do Purunã (PR), and has been identified as a critical area due to the frequency of fog, especially during the early morning hours.
The initiative is part of a set of measures outlined in the highway’s concession contract, which aims to modernize the infrastructure and reduce collision and accident rates with victims.
BR-277: Essential Logistic Axis Between the Triple Frontier and the Coast
BR-277 is considered one of the main highway connections in the state of Paraná. It connects the interior— including cities like Cascavel and Guarapuava— to the Port of Paranaguá, through which a significant portion of agricultural and industrial exports from the Southern region is channeled.
Furthermore, it is a route for tourists and truck drivers coming from Paraguay and Argentina.
The modernization of the signage is another step towards enhancing safety and traffic flow on a highway vital to the regional and national economy.
Do you think this new signage will help address the visibility problem on days with heavy fog?
