The Manufacturer of Marine and Offshore Electrical Cables CCI CableService Signed a Contract with SBM Offshore. Petrobras Expects to Receive the Unit in 2022
To meet Petrobras’s specifications for the Mero 2 project, where the FPSO Sepetiba will be installed, SBM Offshore stated it ordered electrical cables from CCI CableService in the amount of US$ 2.37 million in the first order.
The unit used for the Mero 2 project will have a Fast4Ward design that incorporates the company’s new construction, a multifunctional hull combined with several standardized topside modules.
Petrobras signed a letter of intent with SBM Offshore for a 22.5-year lease and operation of the FPSO Mero 2 in June 2019. The FPSO, destined for the Mero field in the Santos Basin – about 180 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, will be built by BOMESC Offshore Shipyard in Tianjin, China.

The Mero 2 FPSO is designed to produce 180,000 barrels of oil per day. It will have a water injection capacity of 250,000 barrels per day, an associated gas treatment capacity of 12 million standard cubic meters per day, and a minimum storage capacity of 1.4 million barrels of crude oil. The weight of the FPSO’s surface modules will be about 33,000 tons. The FPSO will be anchored at approximately 2,000 meters of water depth. The delivery of the FPSO is expected in 2022.
Gianpaolo Brambilla, CEO of CCI CableService Italy, said: “In such a difficult year, affected by the negative impact of the national lockdown, this new and important FPSO project award is certainly a great achievement for us.
“The contract confirms our long-term relationship with SBM Offshore and is the market’s recognition of the high-quality profile of our marine and offshore electrical cables.”
According to the company, on-site deliveries are estimated to begin in late December 2020.
It is worth mentioning that Petrobras signed at the beginning of this year a letter of intent with MISC Berhad for the leasing and supply of an FPSO to be installed in the Mero 3 offshore project in Brazil.
