The American Multinational Strengthens Its Presence in the Country Even Further with the Acquisition of the Iconic Suvinil Brand
The American multinational Sherwin-Williams announced on Monday (17) the acquisition of the architectural paint division of Basf in Brazil, including the iconic Suvinil brand, for an impressive R$ 6.6 billion (US$ 1.15 billion). The deal will be carried out entirely in cash and marks a significant strategic operation in the sector, according to the Invest News website.
What Is Behind This Sale?
✅ Global Restructuring of Basf: The divestment of Suvinil is part of the “Winning Ways” strategy, which aims to focus on the company’s core businesses.

A Brand with History and Prestige
Suvinil was founded in 1961, initially focused on the automotive sector, but soon expanded into real estate paints, becoming synonymous with quality in Brazil. Since 1969, the brand has belonged to Basf, operating two large factories in São Bernardo do Campo (SP) and Jaboatão dos Guararapes (PE), with around 1,000 employees.

The acquisition by the multinational comes at a time of continuous growth in the construction sector in Brazil. The Minha Casa Minha Vida program has boosted the sector, with residential property launches increasing by 18.6% and sales rising by 20.9% in the last year.
