This Monday (6th), Anvisa was welcomed aboard the MSC Seaview ship by representatives of the Brazilian Association of Maritime Cruises, MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises associates, in addition to PortosRio and the International Cruise Terminal Píer Mauá, which manages the port of Rio de Janeiro.
During the reception, of which the portorio part, data were presented that illustrate the success of the 2022-2023 cruise season, which proved to be the biggest in the last ten years, bringing a positive economic impact of more than BRL 3 billion to the country, of which more than BRL 750 million just for the city of Rio de Janeiro.
CLIA thanked the port authority for its effort in carrying out the dredging work, which made possible the simultaneous berthing of large cruise ships, contributing to the success of the season. Representatives of Pier Mauá, in turn, highlighted the productive partnership with the port authority and thanked for the timely completion of the dredging work.
The port authority was honored to be able to hold an important event like this and celebrated the partnership with the companies and bodies involved, after all, the cruise industry is important both for tourism and for the country's economy, and a successful season is fundamental for the recovery of the sector after the pandemic.

The interim CEO of portorio, Jean Paulo Castro e Silva, thanked Anvisa for its action in controlling the covid-19 pandemic, which was crucial for the resumption of cruise seasons and the recovery of the tourism sector, which generates thousands of jobs and is fundamental for the economy local.
Castro e Silva also highlighted the work to expand and modernize the Gamboa wharf, which will allow larger ships to reach the region, benefiting the tourism sector. He pointed out that the sector is important for the economic and social development, and deserves attention from the public port authority.
Cruise companies, in turn, stated that the rapprochement between the sector and Anvisa, during the pandemic period, contributed to greater efficiency in processes. The director of Anvisa, Daniel Pereira, highlighted that the fifth board of Anvisa, responsible for the regulation and sanitary inspection of ports, airports and borders, has a fundamental role in the dynamics of the operations of the port sector.

Cruise tourism sector attentive to PortosRio's business plan for 2023-2027, highlighted by Anvisa as important for controlling the pandemic
A PortosRio, responsible for the second largest port complex in Brazil, announced its 2023-2027 business plan with expected investments of BRL 649 million. The goal is to move more than 63 million tons of cargo in 2023.
With six long-term leases and three transitory leases in force, the port of Rio de Janeiro has an area of 1,5 million m², of which approximately 290 thousand m² are available for new leases in ten different areas, such as liquid bulk, steel products, general cargo and off-shore operations. Of these new leases, studies are already underway for a new base terminal to support offshore operations, a general cargo terminal and a liquid bulk terminal.
O Port of Itaguaí, the second largest public port in the country in terms of volume of cargo handled, has an area of 2 million m² and has characteristics of an industrial port, where several companies can be installed. Of the seven areas available for technical studies, one is intended for a new iron ore terminal, which should be one of the biggest projects in the national port sector. The business plan also provides for onerous assignments for the concession of areas related to non-operational activities in the two ports, such as logistical support areas and truck centers.
Until next year, the PortosRio intends to invest R$ 649 million in the Port of Itaguaí and in the port of Rio de Janeiro. Dredging for deepening and widening the derivative channel in the port of Itaguaí and completion of the modernization and expansion of the Gamboa wharf in port of Rio de Janeiro are part of the main planned works. The projection is to move more than 63 million tons of cargo in 2021 and almost 70 million tons in 2027. Estimated revenues are BRL 1 billion in 2023 and BRL 1,12 billion in 2027.
