The Semiconductor Crisis Leads to a Halt in Another Production Line. This Time, Three Volkswagen Factories in São Paulo and Paraná Were Affected.
Last week, Volkswagen announced that there will be a production halt at three factories in Brazil, namely: the factories in São Bernardo do Campo and São Carlos, in the state of São Paulo, and the factory in São José dos Pinhais, in Paraná.

Understand the Reason for the Halt in Volkswagen Production
According to the automaker, the halt is due to the lack of semiconductors necessary for vehicle manufacturing. Therefore, the entire production line of these three factories will remain inactive starting June 21.
The lack of semiconductors has been a problem affecting automakers, including Volkswagen, at a global level and has been causing a lot of headaches for the automotive industry. In Brazil, the issue not only affects the automaker’s production; General Motors has also faced difficulties in producing its cars in the country.

The Crisis of Semiconductor Chips
Last month, two days after GM announced a halt in its production, Nissan also announced the shutdown of its factory with more than 2,000 workers. The reason for the halt was also the crisis in semiconductor chips, which has been impacting various automaker factories.
Despite the crisis, semiconductor manufacturers have been trying to boost production, but even with efforts, the crisis continues to escalate and cause production halts, as occurred with Volkswagen.
To give an idea of the magnitude of the product crisis, even Tesla could not escape and had to delay the delivery of two of its electric cars. GM halted production of its Chevrolet Onix and the Onix Plus sedan, which, according to the company, are the cars that utilize the most chips.
Volkswagen: Could Other Possible Halts Come to Brazil?
The VW automaker states that production at its factories in São Paulo and Paraná will be halted for 10 days, starting June 21. However, the possibility of new halts cannot be ruled out, and therefore, the entire range of cars from the brand will be impacted.
Among the models produced in Brazil, the only ones that will “escape” the crisis will be the Gol and the Voyage, as they are produced in Taubaté, which resumed production after the halt a few days ago. Its production was halted in May, also due to a lack of parts.
