INMET forecasts rains above 60 mm in the North and parts of the Northeast between May 20 and 27. South will have storms with lightning and wind. See your region.
The National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) has released, through Meteorological Bulletin No. 18/2025, the weather forecast for the period of May 20 to 27. The scenario is uneven across regions: while the north of the country and parts of the northeastern coast are expected to record rainfall volumes exceeding 60 mm, much of the Midwest and the interior of the Southeast will have a dry and stable week. Meanwhile, the South is preparing to face two episodes of storms with lightning and wind gusts.

Northern Region: Roraima, Amazonas, and Amapá with higher risk of heavy rain
The states of Roraima, Amazonas, Amapá, and areas of Pará concentrate the highest precipitation expectations of the week, with accumulations that can exceed 60 mm. On the other hand, the southern portion of the Amazon is expected to have less intense rains, and localities in the southeast of Pará and Rondônia may experience a week of stable weather.

Northeast: rainy coast and dry in the western interior
In the Northeast, the distribution of rainfall also varies greatly depending on the location. According to INMET, volumes above 50 mm are forecasted for the northwest of Maranhão, the interior of Ceará, and the entire coastal strip from Rio Grande do Norte to Bahia.

Heavy rain may hit the North and Southeast between May 18 and 25, according to INMET’s forecast, with accumulations above 200 mm in Amazonas and intense showers between Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and Espírito Santo.

Soot from rocket launches remains in the atmosphere for years and has a climate impact 540 times greater than pollution emitted near the Earth’s surface. Mega constellations like Starlink will account for 42% of the space sector’s climate impact by 2029.

NASA plans a network of fuel stations in space that could reduce the cost of missions to the Moon and Mars. A satellite will be launched by a Rocket Lab rocket and will test technology that allows spacecraft to be refueled in orbit instead of carrying all the fuel from Earth.
For the other areas of the region, the expectation is for light precipitation, below 20 mm. In some municipalities — especially in the west of Bahia and the south of Maranhão and Piauí — it may not rain at all, with a further reduction in relative humidity over the days.
South of the country on alert: two cold front systems in the same week
The Southern Region is the one that requires the most attention this week. INMET forecasts the passage of two cold fronts — the first between May 19 and 20, and the second starting on the 25th. Each of them may bring isolated storms, with rain accompanied by lightning and wind gusts, and accumulations ranging between 20 mm and 50 mm.
