New Deadline Extended to June and Involves Strategic Acquisition of Eight Vessels Focusing on Efficiency and Sustainability
Transpetro, a Petrobras subsidiary, has extended the deadline for submitting proposals in the international bidding process to June 23 for the construction of eight new gas carriers. The measure addresses the request of interested companies in the process and is part of a broader strategy of the company to strengthen the national fuel logistics with a focus on sustainability, innovation, and operational cost reduction.
Transpetro Expands Fleet of Vessels and Aims for More Sustainable Operations
According to official information released by Transpetro, the bidding was divided into two independent and complementary lots. Lot A provides for the acquisition of three semi-refrigerated vessels with a capacity of 10,000 cubic meters, ideal for transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and ammonia. Lot B includes five pressurized vessels, three with 7,000 cubic meters and two with 14,000 cubic meters.
With the procurement of these units, the Transpetro gas carrier fleet will increase from six to 14 vessels, rising from 36,000 to up to 115,000 cubic meters in total transport capacity.

Fleet Renewal Integrates the New PAC
The bidding is part of the Fleet Renewal and Expansion Program of the Petrobras System, officially launched in July 2024. The first contract occurred in February 2025, with four Handy-class vessels, marking the beginning of the new investment phase. The plan is linked to the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), with a clear goal of reducing dependence on chartered vessels, improving logistics flexibility, and boosting the national shipbuilding industry.
Sustainability Is a Central Pillar of Transpetro’s New Gas Carriers
According to Transpetro, the new vessels will be up to 20% more fuel-efficient and are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 30%. The expectation is that these vessels will also operate in electrified ports, aligning with the international environmental goals that have guided the maritime transport sector in recent years.
Fleet Modernization Reaffirms Transpetro’s Strategic Role
With this new investment cycle, Transpetro reinforces its positioning as a key player in Petrobras’s logistics chain. Furthermore, the company indicates it aims to launch a new bidding process for medium-sized vessels in 2025, further expanding its operational capacity and maintaining a focus on modernizing its fleet with cutting-edge technology and environmental responsibility.
