Intending to Identify New Businesses in the Upstream Area, Petrobras and Shell Signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on March 11.
The goal of the partnership is to identify opportunities and areas of mutual interest in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas. The agreement was made between the exploration and production teams of Petrobras and Shell. According to Petrobras, the partnership is another step towards consolidating its strategy of developing partnerships with foreign companies.
The aim is to enhance business potential in the oil and gas sector both in Brazil and abroad. Shell is one of the largest energy companies in the world, operating in over 70 countries. In Brazil, the company operates in various areas, such as exploration, production, natural gas distribution, and the trading of chemical products.
For Petrobras, the partnership is an opportunity to strengthen its operations in the upstream sector, which involves the exploration and production of oil and natural gas. With the signing of the MoU, the company will be able to benefit from Shell’s experience in the search for new business opportunities.

The MoU was signed by the executive directors of Petrobras and Shell, Jean Paul Prates and Wael Sawan. According to Oliveira, the partnership with Shell is essential for the success of the company’s strategy to establish strong partnerships with other companies in the oil and gas industry.
“We are confident that this partnership with Shell will bring positive results for both companies and for the industry as a whole”, stated Prates. For Sawan, the partnership with Petrobras is an opportunity for Shell to further strengthen its presence in Brazil. “Shell has had a strong presence in the country for over a century and is committed to continuing to invest in energy businesses in Brazil”, highlighted the executive.
With the MoU, the companies will be able to explore new business opportunities together, identifying projects that meet both parties’ interests. The expectation is that the partnership will be beneficial for both companies and for the oil and gas market in general.
The agreement between Petrobras and Shell reinforces the importance of strategic partnerships in the oil and gas industry, in search of more efficient solutions and greater added value. Collaboration between companies is essential for innovation and for the development of new technologies and methods for exploring and producing oil and gas.
