Road-Rail Transport Terminal Comendador Rubem Montenegro Wanderley Inaugurated by Usina Coruripe and Rumo in the State of Minas Gerais.
The city of Iturama, in the state of Minas Gerais, hosted the inauguration of the new road-rail transport terminal of Usina Coruripe and Rumo. The project, named Comendador Rubem Montenegro Wanderley, is the latest road-rail transshipment unit connected to the stretch of the North-South Railway under concession to the company (named by the company as Central Network). Thus, the outflow of sugar production in the region will become even more efficient with the new terminal.
Together with its partnership with Rumo for the concession of the North-South Railway in the region, the sugar-energy company Usina Coruripe invested a total of R$ 95 million for the development of the terminal. Additionally, the companies highlighted that the new road-rail transport terminal has a total capacity to transport more than two million tons of sugar over the course of a year.

Switzerland has hidden more than 1,400 tunnels beneath the Alps with 2,000 km of tracks, invested $10 billion over 14 years, and has already removed 33% of trucks from the mountain roads.
As a result, the Mine Triangle now has another route for the outflow of the production of the resource to make the commercialization of goods even more efficient.
Moreover, the road-rail transport terminal Comendador Rubem Montenegro Wanderley will not be restricted to Usina Coruripe’s operations for the movement of sugar in the region. This is because the company announced a white flag with Rumo so that other companies interested in the multimodal logistics connecting railways and highways can use the terminal for the transport of goods. Thus, the contract will be operated in a consortium regime, reducing costs and increasing transportation productivity, with Rumo Logística being responsible for transporting sugar to the Port of Santos.
Construction of the New Road-Rail Transport Terminal in the Mine Triangle Secured More Than 300 Job Opportunities for Local Residents.
Besides being a highly profitable venture for Usina Coruripe and Rumo Logística, which can now have more efficient sugar transport, the new terminal also brought significant benefits to the state of Minas Gerais and the Mine Triangle region.
This is because, according to data from the companies, during the entire phase of business development, around 350 direct jobs were generated in the region, with 300 people hired for the construction and another 50 for the actual operation of the terminal.
Thus, the president of Usina Coruripe, Mario Lorencatto, commented on the venture and the importance of the new terminal for the state of Minas Gerais, emphasizing that “We hope to contribute to the development of regional sugar production and provide more conveniences to clients and consumers, in addition to generating new jobs. This investment, supported by Funchal and BTG Agro Logística, demonstrates our company’s socioeconomic commitment to the region.”
Finally, the commercial vice president of Rumo, Pedro Palma, considers that the terminal in Iturama has a highly strategic location for the region, as it will enable a much more efficient transport logistics chain for the commercialization of sugar produced in the state.
