After the Brazilian Ecovix joined forces with the Chilean state-owned company Asmar, it is now Wilson Sons’ turn to announce a partnership to bid for the construction of the new Antarctic Support Ship (NApAnt) for the Brazilian Navy. Last year, the Brazilian Navy launched a market survey regarding the construction of the NApAnt, which will replace the Oceanographic Support Ship Ary Rongel. The submission of proposals is expected by the end of this year, with the final announcement of the winner by mid-2021.
If the Wilson Sons and Damen consortium wins the bid, the ship will be built at Wilson Sons’ shipyards in Guarujá, in the state of São Paulo. A minimum of 45% local content is required, and investments are estimated at around R$ 750 million.
